Given that players are taking on the role of Zelda for the first time in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, many fans wonder if there would still be any sword-based combat in the game. And while a majority of Zelda's combat gameplay comes in the form of the new Echo mechanic, fans of Link will be happy to know his combat style is not entirely absent from Echoes of Wisdom.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - How to Get Rupees Fast
Rupees are important if you intend on buying various items in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, so here are some quick farming methods.
Early in Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda will learn the important Swordfighter Form combat mechanic. This special system allows Zelda to use powerful magic to essentially take on Link's characteristics, albeit for a limited time. Still, this system allows fans to get the best of both worlds, and those worlds are incredibly fun to use in Echoes of Wisdom. This guide will not only show players how and when they get the Sword of Might, but also how to level-up Swordfighter Form.
How to Get a Sword in Echoes of Wisdom
Aside from a short sequence at the start of the game, players will spend all their time with Zelda in Echoes of Wisdom. Luckily, those hoping to play like Link will not have to wait long. Swordfighter Form is unlocked early in "The Mysterious Rifts," Echoes of Wisdom's first major quest. After Link falls into a rift at the start of the game, he is not seen until Shadow Link appears out of nowhere to confront Zelda as she makes her way through the Suthorn Ruins dungeon.
Defeat Shadow Link:
Shadow Link is a formidable foe for Zelda at this point in the game, relentlessly chasing her down with his sword and shield. However, Zelda should have multiple Echoes capable of either attacking or distracting Link. The goal here is to get Link to turn his back, allowing Zelda to throw items at his vulnerable side. Link's shield will block just about anything in front of him. Once you defeat Link, you will see a Mysterious Sword stuck in the ground. Picking the sword up will unlock it and introduce you to Swordfighter Form.
Swordfighter Form Explained:
With Swordfighter Form, Zelda will gain temporary access to Link's combat style by pressing Up on the D-Pad. She can swing the Sword of Might, and even use Link's spin move by holding down the attack button. Swordfighter Form also allows Zelda to jump higher, so keep that in mind when trying to reach high areas. This new Sword Form is powered by an Energy Bar. Zelda will encounter small blue bubbles that provide energy, so keep an eye out during your travels.
How to Upgrade Swordfighter Form in Echoes of Wisdom
Collect Might Crystals:
Zelda will be introduced to the upgrade mechanic at the end of "The Mysterious Rift." After defeating the Seismic Talus, Tri will give Zelda five unusual crystals. Zelda will not know how to use them at this point, but these turn out to be Might Crystals. This will be the crafting material that allows Zelda to level-up Swordfighter Form.
Might Crystals are a common reward for defeating powerful bosses, completing side-quests, and exploration. Pursuing them is a worthwhile endeavor, especially if you want to extend Zelda's Energy Bar and increase the Sword of Might's power. Early side-quests like "Finding the Flying Plant" and "Elusive Tumbleweed" reward Might Crystals. Zelda can also find them in treasure chests, so keep your eyes peeled.
Lueberry's House:
After completing "The Mysterious Rifts," and closing up the rift north of Suthorn Village, Zelda will encounter the real Minister Lefte. She will suggest the two of you visit the house that was revealed when the rift was closed. This home ends up belonging to Lueberry, Impa's brother. Lueberry will introduce you to the upgrade system, which is powered by a machine in his home.
After speaking with Lueberry, and learning the specifics of upgrades, Zelda can interact with the large machine in the corner of Lueberry's home. Lueberry will give Zelda two options for enhancement:
- My Sword: This enhances the sword's attack power, and costs 10 Might Crystals
- My Energy: This increases the Energy Bar's length and costs 5 Might Crystals.
After the first upgrade for each item, the cost will increase. This is the basic upgrade structure in Echoes of Wisdom.
