The PS5 version of The Legend of Dragoon received a new update today, though details from Sony remained light about the patch's content. However, fans of The Legend of Dragoon took to social media to report that the patch fixed some longstanding issues with the PS5 version that weren't present in the original release.

Originally released in 1999 in Japan, and in 2000 in the West, The Legend of Dragoon was made by Sony's famed Japan Studio, which was responsible for other classics, such as Ape Escape and PaRappa The Rapper. As of 2021, Japan Studio has been merged into other Sony studios, including Astro Bot developer Team Asobi. The Legend of Dragoon was a standalone turn-based JRPG that put players in control of a young swordsman named Dart and his companions, as they harnessed the power of Dragons to become the titular Dragoons and fight various evils. The Legend of Dragoon received an enhanced re-release on PS4 and PS5 in 2023 as part of the Classics Catalog.

Although the initial relaunch of The Legend of Dragoon was marred by bugs and crashes, the game received continued updates to fix lingering issues. According to MP1st, PS5 players can now download The Legend of Dragoon version 1.000.004, though the PS4 version has yet to receive an update at the time of writing. Version 1.000.004 did not have any official patch notes, leaving fans to test out which outstanding problems were addressed. Some of the more pressing issues that had reportedly been fixed included glitched text around character names, low-quality sound effects, missing battle voice lines, and a problem with Rose's Magic attacks that would cause the game to crash outright. While none of these issues were present in the original PS1 game, the new update for the PS5 port should provide players with a much better experience. The Legend of Dragoo n version 1.000.004 update requires approximately 107 MB of available storage space on PS5.

  • Version 1.000.004 requires around 107 MB of storage space.
  • Issues that would crash the game were addressed.

The Legend of Dragoon's latest patch coincides with a new PS5 system software update. Dubbed version 25.01-10-60.00, the January PS5 update focused on system stability and performance. In a previous major update, Sony gave PS5 users some new PlayStation 30th Anniversary themes to celebrate the console's history. Though fans expressed concerns about Sony taking them away in future updates, they remain intact at the time of writing.

Between the PS5 version's bug fixes and continued fan requests for The Legend of Dragoon to get a remake, Sony's classic JRPG has not faded from the minds of gamers yet. Only time will tell if Sony will give The Legend of Dragoon another shot.
