100T dismantle China’s top seed to pull a shocking upset at Worlds 2025

Highway robbery.

League of Legends tournaments are incomplete without miraculous upsets pulled by the underdogs. On the first day of the Swiss stage of Worlds 2025, 100 Thieves pulled a heist against the Chinese first seed.

As the runners-up of Worlds 2024, many League fans expected Bilibili Gaming to cruise past the LTA’s third seed, especially with the team hailed as one of the favorites to win it all in Beijing. However, 100T delivered a decisive performance that threw a wrench into BLG’s game plan.

100T secured several early objectives and kills. While BLG attempted to claw their way back into the game, 100T’s team composition began to shine. With Dhokla and Eyla providing consistent frontline presence and engage, their carries had the freedom to focus down BLG’s key targets, allowing the North American squad to secure more objectives and establish firm map control.

The main difference-maker was Quid’s Aurora pick in the mid lane, which remained deathless throughout the match, finishing with an impressive 9/0/9 KDA. His constant pressure and precision allowed him to repeatedly catch out the enemy AD carry, leaving BLG without the damage needed to challenge 100T in teamfights.

Elise’s support has been a rare sight at this year’s Worlds, but ON took the risk and it backfired on the team. In theory, the champion has synergy with Caitlyn, but it didn’t work as intended, with 100T never letting Elise burst their carries down.

In the jungle, Beichuan picked up the Exemplar of Demacia, and it failed to leave a mark against River. The pick failed to secure major objectives, and it didn’t create any pressure on 100T’s squishies, leading to BLG suffering in the mid to late game. With this defeat, Jarvan IV has now also lost all five times it was picked at the tournament.

Other American teams like Vivo Keyd Stars and FlyQuest didn’t get the start they wanted for the region, losing their day one matches. After this win, 100T will look to continue their momentum against Top Esports. As for BLG, they’ll be looking to bounce back from this unexpected upset and regain their form in front of their home crowd at Worlds 2025.
