As the first season of League of Legends comes to an end, it's moving on from the fierce empire of Noxus to the mystical land of Ionia. This was confirmed in League of Legends' latest cinematic titled "A Dark Gambit," where LeBlanc says she'll take her journey to Ionia to find a powerful Darkin weapon. This was also teased through the appearance of flower petals, which are common in Ionia, in previous Noxus cinematics featuring LeBlanc.
With every season update, at least one League of Legends champion will get a visual and graphics update (VGU), ideally someone who's from the featured region. For Noxus, it was LeBlanc because she's the head of the Black Rose, a cabal that oversees and controls the empire from the shadows, who played a significant role in Arcane as well as League of Legends Season 1. It's still unknown which champion will get a VGU during the Ionia season, but the game may be teasing that Syndra could be next in line.
League of Legends' Noxus Season is Ending, But One Champion Didn't Get a Visual Update
After League of Legends showed LeBlanc and Vladimir's new looks, it may be skipping the VGU for the latter as Season 1 nears its end.
Syndra's Updated League of Legends Design Might Be Coming Soon
What Happened to Syndra in League of Legends Lore?
Syndra is a mid-lane League of Legends champion who's described as a fearsome mage with incredible yet wild magical power. In her early 20s, she was imprisoned in the Dreaming Pool in Fae'lor, located in the westernmost part of Ionia, after she unleashed devastation upon the island. She was freed centuries later in hopes of aiding her fellow Ionians during the Noxian invasion, but she attacked everyone with her dark magic, regardless of their faction.
Ever since League of Legends released Syndra's short story titled "The Dreaming Pool" in 2018, it hasn't updated fans on what happened to her after waking from her slumber, ripping the fortress of Fae'lor from the ground and floating away with it. But the most recent short story, "Everywhere, and Everyone," seems to tease that LeBlanc may have plans on searching for Syndra and recruiting her in Ionia.
Syndra's Possible Role in League of Legends Season 2
As mentioned, League of Legends Season 2 is making its way to Ionia, which could later be the blueprint for the rumored Arcane successor TV series in Ionia. While there are many popular Ionian characters who could be featured in Season 2, like Ahri and Yasuo, League of Legends could also highlight the "neglected" champions in lore, like Syndra. The fact that LeBlanc showed interest in the dark mage in "Everywhere, and Everyone" could already be a hint that she'll play an important role in Season 2's story.
Just like LeBlanc's updated design in League of Legends Season 1, Syndra could receive another VGU, even though her last updates were just rolled out in 2021 and 2022. However, if Riot Games deemed it too soon to give Syndra a VGU this season, it might just focus on expanding her lore and how she could possibly aid LeBlanc in her mission to find the Darkin weapon in Ionia and prevent the return of Mordekaiser in Noxus.
It would also be interesting to see if Syndra will encounter fellow League of Legends mage Mel Medarda in Ionia. They could definitely go toe to toe with their powerful magic, especially since Mel fought off LeBlanc in Arcane and could be trying to thwart the Black Rose in Noxus in the current lore.
Whether it's Syndra or another Ionian champion, League of Legends has multiple characters to choose from for Season 2's VGU. Ionia is a region rich with compelling stories and interesting characters that League of Legends could pull from to further expand its universe, both in the game and the eventual follow-up to its hit TV show.
