Summary
- Communication and coordination are key to success in Arena mode. Choosing the best champion duos that have unique synergies and excel in small Arena maps can greatly increase chances of winning.
- Certain champions do not work well in Arena due to its unique gameplay. Prioritize champions that suit the fast-paced nature of Arena.
The new 2v2v2v2 Arena mode is taking League of Legends by storm and with its own ranked system players are understandably curious as to how they can win more 2v2 fights and eventually come out on top in Arena.
As with anything League of Legends related, there is a lot of nuance and depth to Arena and of course, players who are already skilled at League will naturally perform better. Nevertheless, by understanding the game mode and its intricacies, players can increase their chances of placing first.
6 Play With A Friend
Most players in Arena will be playing with a friend or premade, in other words, someone they are in voice comms with, allowing them to better coordinate their fights and intentions. Therefore, by playing solo with a randomer, players will be putting themselves at a disadvantage from the off.
This does not mean it is impossible to climb solo in Arena, and some players may see it as a challenge, however, it is recommended for success. In the case of playing with a non-premade, players should try their best to communicate via the team chat or by pings. Playing with a friend also makes Arena more fun.
5 Play The Best Champion Duos For Arena
One of the easiest ways to win more games in League's new 2v2v2v2 mode is to play the best champion duos for Arena. The unique nature of the game mode means that certain duos excel more than others.
The best champion combos often have unique synergies together that work particularly well on the small Arena maps, and ideally, the champions will want to do the same thing in a fight. For example, Heimerdinger and Zyra, one of the premier Arena duos, both want to sit in the middle with their turrets and plants, waiting for the enemy to come to them.
4 Avoid Champions That Don't Work Well In Arena
Arena is very different from a normal game of League on Summoner's Rift. For example, there are no minions or towers and the only way to win is through fighting. As such, certain champions struggle to find their place in this 2v2 mode for a number of reasons.
Champions that rely on minions to dash through or build up their abilities like Yasuo and Irelia can find fights harder, and any macro-based champions such as Twisted Fate who find success through cross-map plays, feel out of place. While some of League's best scaling champions can thrive in Arena due to the accelerated nature of the game, champions who want to stack like Nasus and Draven are best left for the Rift. Champions who benefit from takedown resets in big fights, or champions designed for big 5v5 teamfights also won't be utilized to their full potential.
3 Prioritize Power Flowers
Power Flowers are the new plants exclusive to Arena mode in League of Legends and playing around them is vital to finding more wins. Each Power Flower can be hit three times by auto attacks and will grant the player a heal, a stacking shield, and will refund 20% of the total cooldown of their abilities.
The plants spawn in predefined locations on each of the maps, with some maps having more Power Flowers than others. They can also respawn. Being ready for Power Flowers to spawn and positioning around them is absolutely vital, and on maps where three spawn, teams with mobility can split up to try and get two while the enemy goes for the third.
2 Play To The Team's Strengths
Regardless of the champions or duos that players take, it is important to play around their unique strengths. For example, some champions want to make use of their mobility and skirt-round fights before the Ring of Fire closes in, and others just want to pile on top of the enemy together to combo them down quickly with the best abilities in the game. Regardless, playing to these strengths will help teams finish higher in the standings.
Simultaneously players should try and avoid allowing enemy teams to play to their own strengths. If an enemy team wants to avoid fights and wait for the Ring of Fire to close in, force fights.
1 Take 2v1s Slow
In each combat round of Arena, the team who gets the first kill, thus making it a 2v1, will often win the round. However, this is not always the case as players might be low from the initial fight, or the lone enemy champion might just be stronger.
In these 2v1 situations, especially early into a round, teams should try and take it slow and if possible go and heal up with the Power Flowers. Rushing into another fight or prolonging one is more likely to result in a mistake, thus throwing what should have been an easy win. After all, two players have two health pools to work with and double the number of spells as their lone adversary.
