The start of summer means that professional League of Legends has returned for another split. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic briefly stopped spring, the game’s nature allowed competitive teams and production to resume and adapt quickly before the current split began. To that end, players can once again cheer for their favorite teams and earn some great rewards along the way.

During the summer split, placement directly determines who qualifies for the World Championships in fall, so there is much more at stake for League of Legends  teams, players, and their fans. On another note, watch mission criteria have been drastically reduced compared to previous requirements which make it easier than ever for fans to get rewards by watching the best in the LCS and LEC fight for glory. This time, prizes for watching a few hours of LoL matches include a not-so-subtle JoJo reference courtesy of Sett, the Boss.

Summer Split Missions

Currently, there are 4 missions that can be completed during the summer split.

  1. Watch 1 LCS or LEC game on Lolesports, Reward: 1 Hextech Chest and Hextech Key
  2. Watch 5 LCS or LEC games on Lolesports, Reward: 1 Hextech Chest and Hextech Key
  3. Watch 10 LCS or LEC games on Lolesports, Reward: It Was Me! Emote
  4. Watch 15 LCS or LEC games on Lolesports, Reward: 1 Hextech Chest and Hextech Key

These missions can be tracked through the in-game client's mission tab or by going to the official LoL Esports website.

How to Complete Missions

In order to get credit, players must be viewing games through a link on LoL Esports. Watching straight from the official YouTube or Twitch channels won’t go towards completing missions. They also need to sign in with their login info to properly credit their account with the rewards. If all the steps are followed, players will get a small notification saying "watch rewards are correctly set up for your account." Afterward, they can watch games supported by new sponsors or even just leave the page running in the background while still getting credit for missions.

LCS and LEC Schedule

During each week, the LCS and LEC will run 10 matches where each franchised team such as Evil Geniuses competes twice. While the LEC normally airs 5 matches a day on both Friday and Saturday, the LCS now has 2 games on Friday followed by 4 games each on Saturday and Sunday. Because of the slight overlap, fans can watch up to 9 games by catching the LEC and LCS right after on Saturday. But since there are 3 months to finish all 4 missions, people with small amounts of free time can steadily make progress and get all their rewards before the summer split ends.

Since the Pulsefire 2020 event is ending tomorrow, the summer split gives players another opportunity to earn free rewards until the next summer event. And starting on week 3, there will be a chance to get even more prizes courtesy of drops during live LCS and LEC matches.
