Spoilers for The Last of Us season 2, episode 2

Summary

  • Season 2 of The Last of Us features a humorous "cameo" by Jennifer Aniston in a magazine.
  • Some A-list actors like Catherine O'Hara and Joe Pantoliano join the cast.
  • Aniston jokingly responds to her unexpected post-apocalyptic appearance on her IG stories.

HBO's second season of The Last of Us adaptation isn't what anyone would ever call funny in the slightest, but one humorous "cameo" from former Friends star Jennifer Aniston has prompted a hilarious response from The Morning Show actor via her IG account. The post-apocalyptic series already includes a slew of A-list actors like The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel Miller, and Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey as Ellie. In season 2 of The Last of Us, Catherine O'Hara was also welcomed in to play Gail, a therapist and resident of Jackson, as well as her on-screen husband, Eugene, played by Joe Pantoliano.

Some other past stars have included Yellowjackets' Melanie Lynskey and Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman, with Jeffrey Wright coming in to play Isaac Dixon in The Last of Us Season 2. As fans have witnessed, and are still digesting, episode 2 of the show was its most shocking yet as Abby finally got her hands on Joel, opting to play a round of golf with him before beating him bloody with her bare hands. However, before all of that went down, there was a more relaxed moment that saw Ellie sniffing around a store before stumbling across a magazine, while also finding a gas-mask bong, and it was in this sequence that the Friends star made her first ever post-apocalyptic appearance.

The Last of Us Season 2, episode 2, titled 'Through the Valley,' will be remembered by fans as one of its most traumatic and shocking, especially for non-gamers who had no idea Pedro Pascal's Joel was about to become mashed potato. However, in a bid to steer away from the dark side for a while, another scene in the episode is much more light-hearted as Jennifer Aniston makes a small, blink and you miss it appearance.

As a blizzard brews over Jackson, Ellie and Jesse head into a convenience store to take shelter and wait it out. After discovering that the place is actually a weed farm once owned by Eugene, Ellie comes across an issue of People Magazine with stars that include Britney Spears and Kate Hudson on the cover. In the section that includes the “best and worst dressed” stars in Hollywood, Jennifer Aniston can be seen smack bang in the center. Although we aren't too sure where Aniston falls in that category, we do know that she was not aware that she’d be popping up in an episode of The Last of Us ahead of time.

Jennifer Aniston's Instagram post about The Last of Us

Taking to her Instagram stories, Aniston wrote, “Of all the things to survive the apocalypse,” she joked, alongside a laughing emoji and a screenshot of the magazine posted on Sunday night following the episode. Now that we all know Aniston is a Last of Us fan, maybe Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin could get the Hollywood star onboard for The Last of Us season 3? As the episodes get darker and more sinister, fans could certainly do with a little bit of comedy in between the trauma and heartache to lighten the mood.

The Last of Us Season 2 streams on Max, with new episodes dropping every Sunday.
