How to Beat the Rat King in The Last of Us Part 2
The Rat King boss fight happens during the chapter Ground Zero in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Similar to the Ellie boss fight, this one is also divided into three distinct phases, which makes the fight even more cinematic. Let's look over all the phases of the Rat King boss fight to help you complete this section with ease.
Phase One
The Rat King boss fight begins with a chase sequence, as the mutant shoves itself inside the ambulance with Abby inside. Abby will run through the hospital as the Rat King will incessantly chase her through the hallways. At several points, the monster will break through walls just to cut Abby off. Players will have to keep on their toes, as getting caught in this chase sequence will mean instant death.
Phase Two
Once the chase sequence is over, Abby and the Rat King will fall into a lab, leading to a full-blown showdown. The first thing players need to do here is run away to the other corner of the lab and get their health back up. Once you're ready, grab the shotgun, try shooting two bullets at the creature, and run away. Rinse and repeat this strategy until the Rat King transitions into the next phase of the fight.
Phase Three
In the third phase, the Rat King will split one of the creatures from its body and send it after Abby. This is the trickiest part of the boss fight, as you won't be able to stay stationary for long. The miniature creature is swift and can quickly catch up to you. Use this opportunity to run away and grab all the resources from the lab. Once you're ready, reload the flamethrower and focus only on the Rat King's main body.
There's no point in shooting the smaller creature as it won't die, no matter how much damage it takes. So, keep running from one room to another, and try to unleash the flamethrower when the Rat King is approaching you in a straight line. Once you deal enough damage, the main body of the Rat King will die. Now, Abby will chase down the smaller creature and put it out of its misery, marking the end of the Rat King boss fight in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
