A new rumor suggests that Sony might release new editions of The Last of Us Part 2. The Last of Us Part 2 received critical acclaim upon its launch, and it ended up winning several Game of the Year awards at the end of 2022.

The Last of Us Part 2 is only available on PS4 at the moment, although gamers can play it on PS5 via backwards compatibility. Naughty Dog even released an update that allowed fans to play The Last of Us Part 2 at 60 FPS on PS5. Now, new information reveals that Sony may be working on a new version of The Last of Us Part 2.

As reported by IGN, The Last of Us Part 2 composer Gustavo Santaolalla shared some information about a supposed new edition in an interview with Blender. He stated that players can make him play certain themes in the “new editions” of The Last of Us Part 2. For those unaware, Gustavo Santaolalla has a small cameo in The Last of Us Part 2, as his character can be seen playing the banjo. It should be noted that fans should take every rumor or leak with a grain of salt, and wait for an official announcement from Sony or Naughty Dog.

It's not clear what these new editions could contain, but it looks like Sony will release an upgraded version of The Last of Us Part 2. A leak from 2022 suggested that a Director’s Cut of The Last of Us Part 2 is in development, which could be what this interview was referring to. As The Last of Us Part 2 is already playable in 60 FPS on PS5, it’ll be interesting to see what upgrades and improvements this edition will offer over the original game.

Sony launched The Last of Us Part 1 on PC earlier this year, so this new version may also come to PC alongside the PS5 release. Unfortunately, gamers experienced a wide variety of problems with the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1, resulting in the game getting review bombed. Sony’s other PC port have been generally well-received, making The Last of Us Part 1’s performance issues an outlier. Naughty Dog has released several updates for The Last of Us Part 1 since it came out on PC, focused primarily on better optimization and bug fixes.

The Last of Us Part 2 is now available on PS4.
