It is very common to rank the outfits of characters in our favorite games. L.A. Noire is no different, with players being able to change the outfit of the main character, Cole Phelps. Some outfits will benefit the player, such as making it easier to question suspects in a certain case. Other outfits offer only a cosmetic change to the character.
Finding collectibles, completing certain tasks, and leveling up after each case will unlock new outfits. With the number of costumes available to the player, they are sure to find one that fits their style and one that gives a little extra help.
14 Beat Cop Outfit
This outfit looks like what a Los Angeles police officer would wear in the 1940s. In the original release of the game, this outfit was not available for wearing during later cases. In the remaster, it has been made available to the player.
While it is cool to have the option, nothing beats wearing a suit while solving cases. On top of that, the police uniform does not offer any special benefits.
13 Golden Boy
The Golden Boy is automatically given to the player when they reach the traffic desk. It does not offer any special abilities, and it does not look as cool as Cole's later outfits.
If the player has any other outfits unlocked at this point, they will most likely change it. Any of the special outfits unlocked with pre-ordering the game or playing the remaster will benefit the player a lot more.
12 Sword of Justice
This outfit is unlocked by reaching rank 5 or by being promoted to the Homicide desk. Much like the last suit, there is nothing aesthetically different about it and there are no special benefits from it.
It is a basic dark blue suit with nothing that makes it stand out. In later cases, Cole's starting suit will become more flashy or remind players of a 1940s detective from the movies.
11 The Incognito
Players will unlock this outfit by tailing all suspects without being caught during the Vice desk. It will make the player more difficult to detect during later tailing missions. The only issue is that there are barely any after the Vice desk.
It would be a more useful outfit if there were any other tailings. It is still useful for any player who wants to go back and replay missions with a little more ease.
10 The Outsider
The Outsider is unlocked either when the player reaches level 13 or when Cole Phelps is demoted to the Arson desk. The outfit has a pretty nice look to it, reminding players a bit more of old detectives. It also makes a reference to Cole's scandal.
The name is a reference to how Cole cheated on his wife with a German singer. The name applies, too, as the player will feel like an outsider among Cole's colleagues during these cases.
9 Hawkshaw
The Hawkshaw is unlocked when the player reaches level 18. It appears to be The Outsider outfit, just without the suit jacket. The Hawkshaw also gives the player a bit of an advantage against enemies.
Players who wear this outfit will be given damage resistance. Having a bit of style along with a little bit of a benefit is sure to make this outfit very useful to players.
8 Sunset Strip
The Sunset Strip is probably the best outfit Cole can get in the base game. It is either unlocked at level 8 or when the player makes it to the Vice desk. It fits the location of the cases, as well as the style of Cole's new partner.
This outfit makes Cole stand out more among his fellow detectives. It also fits the style of fast cars and the world of drugs that Cole finds himself in during these cases.
7 Button Man
Players can unlock this outfit by completing the Badge Pursuit Challenge. The player must find 20 badges, which will then unlock this outfit. The Button Man does also come with a little bit of a benefit.
Wearing the outfit will give players extra ammo. This can give the player an advantage, as a few extra bullets might be the thing between life and death.
6 The Untouchable
The Untouchable gives Cole a sleek white suit, making him stand out among his fellow officers. To unlock this outfit, the player must dodge 20 punches in a row without being hit. Wearing this prevents the player from taking damage from fistfights.
Another benefit makes it so blood does not appear on this suit. Any player who does not want to stain Cole with blood will love this outfit. Sadly, the outfit does not offer any gunfight advantage.
5 The Broderick
The Broderick increases the player's damage resistance and improves Cole's fist-fighting abilities. This is sure to give the player an advantage no matter what kind of fight they get into.
The outfit also looks pretty good, while also giving the player a unique pistol. While wearing this outfit, Cole will use a nickel-played version of his pistol.
