Rumi, Zoey, and Mira Stanced Up in KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters begins with a beautiful sequence that explores the long line of demon hunters from which Rumi, Zoe, and Mira come. The voices that came before them, that harnessed the power of the song to push back demon kind and protect humanity, did so in harmony.

6 "I Let You Keep That Voice" - Gwi-Ma

A Terrifying Introduction

Jinu Singing Your Idol in KPop Demon Hunters

After the girls display their skills and talent, KPop Demon Hunters introduces the big bad of the story. A powerful demon flame that devours the souls sent back to it from the human world, which has begun to burn out from starvation.

Jinu approaches the demon king arrogantly, which earns him a few short words that are cold enough to send shivers down the spines of anyone who hears them. The act of taking someone's voice, or allowing them to keep it, is especially cruel in the film, revealing just how evil Gwi-ma can be and segways into how tragic Jinu's story is.

A Perfect Description Of Rumi's Struggles

Rumi Making a Final Stand in KPop Demon Hunters

Rumi's story is an incredible journey in KPop Demon Hunters, especially when her secret is revealed during the debut of the band's next song, "Golden". The hardships and stress that Rumi has been under stem from the secret she's been keeping her entire life.

This lyric not only speaks to the lengths she's gone to hide, but the weight she's placed on her shoulders, fearing that if her friends learned the truth, she wouldn't be allowed to be who she is. Rumi's expectations of herself are hurting her the most, even if she doesn't know it.

4 "How Am I Supposed To Fix The World, Fix Me, When I Don't Have My Voice" - Rumi

A Heartbreaking Plea From The Main Character

Demon Mira Taunting Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters

Rumi panics as the one thing she needs to make herself "normal" begins to fail. When her whole life revolves around her voice and her song, when she begins to lose it, her entire world falls apart. This moment is extremely precious because it addresses both problems in Rumi's story.

While her voice is essential, it's not as important as her health, mental or otherwise. This moment does an incredible job at showing just how much weight Rumi carries on her shoulders, and how keeping it to herself does more harm than good.

3 "To Treat The Part, You Must Understand The Whole" - Healer Han

An Underrated Gem That Places A Spotlight On The Solution

Mira, Rumi and Zoey at the end of the movie - KPop Demon Hunters

This is pulled to the forefront when the girls visit Healer Han to try and get a remedy for Rumi's failing voice. Healer Han draws out most of the girls' insecurities and bestows this valuable bit of wisdom upon them.

You can fix a problem without knowing the cause. To see the bigger picture, Rumi must stop focusing on only one aspect. Arguably, the entire conflict could have been fixed in the doctor's office, but the Saja Boys would have found another weakness to exploit.

Rumi tries to win Junu over to her cause, but Gwi-ma's hold over him is strong. Jinue's self-loathing holds him back from thinking he deserves to be saved.
