Konami’s Press Start livestream event took place recently, and Castlevania fans were disappointed to learn the gothic franchise was noticeably absent from the announcement lineup. Thankfully, an old rumor speculating a new game is on the way still seems to have legs. The Castlevania series, known in Japan as Akumajo Dracula, primarily follows Count Dracula and the Belmont clan of vampire hunters, and the franchise made its debut back in 1986 on Nintendo’s Famicom Disk System.
The Silent Hill community, however, was spoiled during Konami's livestream, as a brand-new Silent Hill remake game was announced. The project is currently in development, helmed by the Silent Hill 2 Remake studio, Bloober Team, and is reportedly a remake of the original 1999 Silent Hill game. No further details were given during the event, but viewers did get a glimpse of the remake’s current logo.
New Game Has Serious Castlevania Vibes
A brand-new metroidvania game on its way later this year seems to be bringing back some old-school flair from the original days of Castlevania.
Konami announced the Press Start event just earlier in the week, which yielded exciting stuff for gamers, but Castlevania fans were left frustrated. Luckily, VGC owner and journalist, Andy Robinson, doubled down on a previous rumor he broke concerning a new Castlevania game. After reporting the new Silent Hill remake announcement on Twitter, Robinson was asked what happened to the Castlevania project he reported a few years ago. The journalist responded, saying, “Still coming AFAIK.” Robinson’s original report speculated that Konami had been working on a “reimagining” of Castlevania for years, and that the project was getting support from local external studios.
New Castlevania Game Is 'Still Coming' According to Insider
A new Castlevania rumor touting a triple-A game will be announced this year is also being circulated by fans, but this speculation comes from a different source and may not be related to Robinson’s scoop. Furthermore, another Twitter user noted Robinson said a new Castlevania game would be the first of these titles instead of now looking like the last, and the journalist responded by saying that “things change” in game development.
Fans of horror and vampire stories have their opinion of which is the best Castlevania game from Konami, and several strong contenders were released throughout the series’ longevity. 1997’s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is usually gamers’ favorite, which honed the vibe and mechanics that make Metroidvanias great. 1993’s Castlevania: Rondo of Blood presented a pristine campaign despite being significantly lesser known than Symphony of the Night. Lastly, 2003’s Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow was a highlight for most on the Game Boy Advance.
