Hideo Kojima has taken to social media to reveal that his studio, Kojima Productions, has recently been visited by Microsoft's marketing team. This development suggests that the prolonged period of radio silence on Kojima's collaboration with Xbox could be nearing its end, which should be exciting news for many an Xbox fan.
Originally confirmed in June 2022, Kojima's first-ever Xbox exclusive is still without an official title. But the overall level of excitement surrounding the project remains fairly high, not least because Kojima's upcoming Xbox game promises to deliver a unique experience powered by Microsoft's cloud gaming tech.
And though the mysterious title isn't expected to hit the market any time soon, the group that Microsoft recently dispatched to Kojima Productions has inspired hope among the fandom that more news about the game could be coming in the near future. The eight-person team visited Kojima Productions' swanky new studio in Minato City, Tokyo, which reopened its doors in late 2022 following extensive renovations. Kojima took to Twitter on July 31 to share a photo of his recent visitors, with many fans responding that they cannot wait for him to reveal more details about the Xbox collaboration.
This wasn't the first occasion on which the tech giant's staffers visited the Kojima Productions headquarters. VP of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg already led one such entourage back in early March, labeling it as the start of an "exciting journey" that will bring together Kojima Productions and Microsoft's marketing, production, engineering, and cloud teams.
And while there's been no official news about the project ever since its confirmation, one late 2022 report suggested that Kojima's upcoming Xbox exclusive is a horror game titled Overdose. According to that insider account, American actress Margaret Qualley will be part of the upcoming game's cast. Best known for her work on The Nice Guys and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Qualley already collaborated with Kojima on Death Stranding, where she portrayed twin sisters Mama and Lockne.
That particular rumor seems to imply that Microsoft will be the one to finally provide Kojima with an opportunity to create a full-fledged horror game, which is something that he already attempted to do with Silent Hills before Konami canceled that project in 2015 following its fallout with the famous video game designer. Apart from its mysterious new Xbox exclusive, Kojima Productions is currently also working on Death Stranding 2 and a Death Stranding movie.
