The Kingdom Hearts series celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022 with a host of exciting announcements. A teaser trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 was finally unveiled, but another new title in the series was also revealed by Square Enix. Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be coming to mobile platforms. As a follow-up on the announcement of the mobile title, KH director Tetsuya Nomura shared a few details about the future of the series in the interview, including the news that Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be having a closed beta test later this year.
Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is not the series' first mobile title. Square Enix launched Kingdom Hearts Union X [Cross] for web browsers in Japan back in 2013. The mobile version followed two years later in 2015, and the English version came out one year later in 2016. Later on, Union X [Cross] had an expansion titled Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road, which will also be getting a final update in the future. By completing Dark Road, the devs may have considered it time to introduce a new mobile title to the KH series with Missing Link.
In the recent interview that Nomura participated in, the director shared that Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be having a closed beta test scheduled for Fall 2022. Unfortunately, no exact date was shared in the interview and there was no mention of whether the closed beta test will be open to fans outside of Japan. However, Nomura did provide a bit of information about Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link character creation and gameplay, which is something many fans can look forward to.
In the interview, Nomura also shared some tidbits about using Street View on Google Maps and using Augmented Reality for Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link's gameplay and battle system. This may mean that there could be physical location-based features implemented in the game, similar to Niantic's mobile title Pokemon GO. However, until Square Enix shares official news about the title, fans will have to consider these ideas as mere speculation for now.
At the end of the interview, it was shared that a more in-depth version will be published at a later date. Hopefully more information about Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be revealed by Nomura in that iteration. Fans are likely eager to learn more intricate details and what they can expect in the new mobile title.
