KH4 May Want to Take Notes from Destiny 2: Renegades

Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently one of the biggest mysteries in gaming at the moment. While the game has been confirmed with a teaser trailer, developer Square Enix hasn't offered any substantial Kingdom Hearts 4 news in quite a long time, apart from assuring fans it's in production. With no end in sight, one of the biggest questions that remains unanswered is which Disney-based worlds will be present in the game.

The Kingdom Hearts franchise has continued to bring fun-filled worlds inspired by various Disney IPs, and there's currently no way to know how the next chapter plans on one-upping past entries. For years, fans have speculated that either Marvel or Star Wars would eventually be introduced to the series, and if Kingdom Hearts 4 features the latter, it could have an unlikely source of inspiration: Destiny 2.

Destiny 2's Upcoming DLC Brings Star Wars Front and Center

While the Renegades DLC features plenty of Star Wars-inspired content, it is still being branded as a Destiny 2 story. This expansion is a bold step away from the game's established identity, which is bound to be controversial, but it will also be intriguing to see how Destiny 2 approaches Star Wars content. The Star Wars franchise is no stranger to major crossovers, but Renegades is looking to be one of the most ambitious collaborations that has been granted yet.

Destiny 2's first expansion of the year, Edge of Fate, arrives on July 15. The Renegades DLC is set to arrive on December 2.

Kingdom Hearts 4's Potential Star Wars Crossover Needs to Stand Out

Over the years, Star Wars has been featured in many different games. Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Brawlhalla are just the tip of the iceberg, so Kingdom Hearts 4 may need a unique approach with its content. That's what makes Destiny 2: Renegades so intriguing. While the DLC is a risky move by developer Bungie, the teaser trailer for the expansion also promises a compelling take on Star Wars.

Teased content like cosmetics and lightsabers were made clear in the announcement, while the setting could potentially be Tatooine, based on the desert landscape. A lot of the larger details surrounding Destiny 2: Renegades are being kept under wraps for the time being, but it could be a strong blueprint for Kingdom Hearts 4 to draw from, as Square Enix can take note of what players do and do not like about Bungie's interpretation of Star Wars.

With all the Star Wars content present in gaming, Kingdom Hearts 4 risks not feeling as special. Star Wars has saturated the crossover space, so if Kingdom Hearts 4 doesn't approach its potential Star Wars world in a compelling way, it could prove to be a weak point in the game. The main issue, though, is that it's not exactly clear how Kingdom Hearts 4 can do such a team-up in a unique way, so Renegades can hopefully help with that. Whether it be through unexpected characters like Ahsoka instead of Luke Skywalker or a world based around Kashyyyk where only Wookiees are present, Kingdom Hearts 4 might have to think outside the box.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Stays in the Shadows

Right now, the wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 continues. This year has already had its fair share of surprises, so a fresh trailer isn't exactly off the table, but only time will tell. Until then, Kingdom Hearts 4 remains a hot bed for speculation, and it will be thrilling to finally get answers as to whether Star Wars will be part of the game or not.
