The upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 Re: Mind DLC will serve to both bring back and explore most of the major characters that have appeared throughout the series' overarching story. And some new screenshots of the game reflect this by showing off returning Final Fantasy characters, and original Kingdom Hearts characters that reunited in the game's climactic ending.
For those who are unaware of the Final Fantasy situation, the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 Re: Mind, revealed that Leon, Yuffie, and Aerith would be making a return to the series after not appearing in Kingdom hearts 3's initial story. The trailer neglected to show or mention Cid, but a tweet that was later sent out by the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account displayed a render of the character, effectively confirming that he will be returning along with the other three.
This same account posted another tweet today that features the aforementioned new screenshots. There are four in total, and fans may recognize them from the Re: Mind trailer. The first two images display Axel, Xion, and Roxas, one of the trios of characters that were reunited by the ending of Kingdom Hearts 3. The last two images focus on the Final Fantasy crew, displaying Aerith, Leon, and Yuffie. As these images come from the trailer, they don't feature Cid, but again, a past tweet confirmed that he would be returning to round out the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee.
The images of Axel, Roxas, and Xion, take place during the battle with Sai'x. Players experience this fight toward the end of the game, but with Sora as their avatar character. Re: Mind will allow players to take control of characters other than Sora, though, so they'll be able to play this fight out using Roxas, and Xion - possibly Axel, too.
As for the images of the Final Fantasy characters, Riku goes to visit them to talk about Sora after Kingdom Hearts 3's events. During the ending of the game, Sora disappeared, and no one has any clue as to where he is. Believing that the members of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee can help him, Riku seeks out their help. For players, this will be the first time Riku's ever interacted with Final Fantasy characters onscreen, so how it plays out should be an interesting thing to see when Re: Mind arrives later this month.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
