Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a love letter to the Middle Ages, Bohemian culture, and old-school gaming. Across the two maps and over 2 million words of dialogue, there are dozens of tiny details that players have likely missed or not fully understood.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - 6 Roleplay Ideas For New Playthroughs
The roleplay ideas for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are perfect for new playthroughs.
Some of these incredible details are hard to find, while others are out in the open, but only obvious to those who perhaps speak Czech or know a lot about Kuttenberg's history, for example. In fact, it's entirely possible that there are a few small KCD2 details that nobody has noticed yet.
In Henry's Quality Mark, MJ, The J Stands For Jindrich
Jindrich Is Henry's Czech Name
In KCD2's blacksmithing, and with the right Perks, Henry can forge items above the usual quality, known as Henry's Quality. For these, a mark of an M and J is given. Most people will know that the M could stand for Master or for Henry's father, Martin, who was a blacksmith. However, the J may come as a bit of a surprise, given that H would be expected for Henry.
However, when you consider that Henry's name in his native Czech is Jindrich, all becomes clear. This MJ mark is also displayed on a blacksmith's apron available with the Legacy of the Forge DLC. After cleaning up, it can be found in the chest in Henry's chambers, along with some gloves with the MJ.
Characters You Incriminate Can Be Found At The Kuttenberg Gallows
These Will Only Appear If You Catch Them
Without going into spoilers, there are a few times when Henry will investigate serious crimes and figure out who is behind them. If players later visit the Kuttenberg Gallows to the southeast of the city, they may find the bodies of condemned NPCs they know.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Best Horses (& Where To Get Them)
The best horses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can typically be bought from horse traders in the Kuttenberg region, but there are two surprises.
It can be quite the shock when going up to them and suddenly remembering them, especially if it's been a while after the events. These bodies can also be looted for important keys and even a map.
Bronze Inlays On Armor Can Oxidize Over Time
All Gear Suffers Visible Wear & Tear, But This Takes The Cake
All of Henry's gear, from weapons to clothing, will get damaged in combat and deteriorate over time, and for it to remain effective and not have NPCs call Henry scruffy, all of these must be repaired. However, while simple signs of wear and tear would be expected, an incredible detail is that small bronze inlays on armor can oxidize over time, turning green.
While this will happen much faster than it would in real life, it is nevertheless an astounding detail, especially as only a few pieces of armor have these inlays, and yet they still went to the effort of making an additional texture. The armor doesn't actually need to be damaged; it just needs to be dirty. Armor can also rust.
Crimes Committed Against The Higher Social Classes Are Punished More Severely
The Fine For Murdering A Trader Is Twice That Of Murdering A Beggar
Social classes were a big deal in the Middle Ages. For example, Sumptuary Laws dictated what fur and fabrics certain individuals could wear, based on their class. One way in which KCD2 depicts the importance of the hierarchy is that crimes against those of a higher class are punished more severely.
For example, if Henry murders a beggar, the fine for avoiding the game's punishments, such as branding or hanging, is 1000 Groschen. On the other hand, if he murders a trader or townsman, the fine jumps up to 2000 Groschen. It is details like these that help make the game so realistic.
Get Drunk Faster On An Empty Stomach
Eating Just Before Or After Drinking Will Slow Down Drunkenness
Drinking and even alcohol addiction are both features of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but one immersive detail shows just how much thought and effort was put into the system. If Henry drinks alcohol on an empty stomach, then he will become tipsy or drunk faster, just as is usually the case in real life.
If, however, Henry eats just before drinking or during the time in which the drunk meter fills up, this process will slow down. This can be useful for some quests where Henry or even Godwin has to drink, but where being drunk could be detrimental. Henry's Drinking skill also determines how fast he gets drunk.
You Can Be Robbed In Areas Where You Have A Bad Reputation When Unconscious
After Passing Out Drunk, You Might Wake Up With Less Groschen & No Shoes
If Henry drinks too much, he will eventually pass out, often waking up in a weird location, such as a pig sty. While this is a neat feature, if he happens to pass out in a dodgy area where his reputation is low, a local might rob him.
For example, Henry might wake up with some of his Groschen and boots stolen. There is even an achievement in KCD2 for Henry's boots being stolen while passed out.
Henry Will Unload Bolts When Unequipping A Crossbow
He Clearly Takes Safety Seriously
One of the many improvements from the first game in KCD2 is the addition of crossbows. There are a few different types, each with their own method of loading the bolts. Watching Henry perform these actions and feeling the controller vibrate as the tension of the string increases is quite the experience and shows players how these deadly weapons worked.
There is also an incredible detail that most would miss. When Henry unequips a loaded crossbow, either swapping it out for another weapon or just putting it away, he will first make sure to unload the bolt. This is so that it doesn't accidentally fire while stowed away on his back.
