With over 2.75 million copies sold worldwide, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has far surpassed the expectations set by its predecessor. And when seeing what the sequel delivered to fans of the original game, it’s easy to see what caused this universal praise. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 promises and delivers more of what made its predecessor stand out in a sea of open-world RPGs: a deeply immersive historical setting where realism, routine, and interpersonal bonds rule the day. Unlike the bustling, quest-heavy towns of other popular RPGs, Warhorse Studios favors the more subtle approach to storytelling in KCD2. The game’s design is one that rewards curiosity and patience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is well-regarded due to its immersive storytelling and distinguished cast of characters that make such a specific moment in history come to life. Among this cast of characters that transport players back to Bohemia are hundreds of NPCs that populate the map. From village rapscallions looking for a bar brawl to simple passersby on the road, the NPC encounters in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are abundant. The unpredictable paths of certain NPCs and the specific chain of events necessary to discover them make some characters incredibly easy to miss. In fact, it is safe to say that most players will likely never encounter some NPCs in their Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 playthroughs unless they go out of their way to meet them. These characters may not necessarily advance the main storyline, but they leave lasting impressions on those who find them.

Rare Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 NPC - Karel Arrowhead

A character who can only be found by happenstance in a video game is rare. Still, in this case, it showcases Warhorse Studios’ attention to detail and the unlikely “what-ifs” that enhance the player experience. Karel Arrowhead, or the “Sleeping Man,” is one of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s most elusive NPCs. His name comes from the fact that he has a piece of metal arrowhead sticking out of his forehead like a horn. He insists his arrow is imbued with magic that makes him invincible — a direct nod toward the detrimental effects of having an arrow lodged into one's skull. Unfortunately, Karel’s fate takes a turn for the worse.

Karel is found in Kuttenberg after a player has undertaken the Speak of the Devil mission. And even then, his window of availability is strikingly brief. Players who stray too far or delay their travels after completing the quest will risk missing him entirely. His appearance isn’t marked on the map, and the encounter lacks any kind of true fanfare. But for those who do travel south toward Grund immediately after the mission, Karel becomes a hilarious footnote in the broader world.

Rare Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 NPC - The Lady of Death (Or The White Lady)

Among the darkened roads of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, a nighttime traveler might stumble upon an unnerving sight: an elderly woman dressed entirely in white, walking alone through the stillness and humming a tune. She introduces herself calmly, claiming to be resting from her “work.” She describes her work as easing people’s pain and taking their suffering away. Her words carry a chilling ambiguity, and there’s a weight behind them that suggests something more spectral than earthly. While this encounter may sound like something out of a fairytale for KCD2, meeting this woman takes a more morbid tone.

What sets this strange woman apart isn’t just her unsettling presence but the way she speaks about Henry. She claims to have walked beside him many times, a statement that feels deeply personal yet disturbingly universal. Her familiarity with Henry’s violent journey implies she is tied to death itself or is actually death personified. In a game grounded so tightly in realism, it’s easy to miss how superstition weaves itself through the very Christian villages Henry travels through. The White Lady stands out as one of KCD2’s rare brushes with the surreal, bringing to life medieval myth and superstition.

Rare Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 NPC - Ambrose the Hermit

Tucked away in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the story of Ambrose, a sick and dying hermit whose presence in the world is so fleeting that most players will only learn of him after he has already passed. Traditionally, Ambrose is found during The Hermit side quest, where Henry stumbles upon his secluded home and uncovers clues about the man’s reclusive life, but never the man himself. His fate, for many, is already sealed by the time players accept this quest with only his loot upon his grave to remember him by.

Most players find Ambrose deceased. However, those who veer off the beaten path and visit his hut under just the right conditions, before the quest officially begins, may actually meet Ambrose while he is still struggling to cling to life. The encounter is quiet and tragic. He’s frail, introspective, and acutely aware that his end is near. Ambrose does not offer the player much but a few lines of dialogue, only the chance to speak with a man who has chosen solitude for his final days. It’s a rare moment of intimacy, the kind of fleeting human connection that makes KCD2’s world feel lived-in, reactive, and painfully mortal.

Rare Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 NPC - Jezhek of Holohlavy

Not every would-be thief on the roads of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is what they seem. Jezhek of Holohlavy is a rare encounter that blurs the line between knave and knight, offering players a surprisingly human story hidden behind a shaky blade and a desperate ambush. He appears along the roadside, halting Henry’s travels with a half-hearted attempt at robbery. But it quickly becomes apparent that Jezhek isn’t cut out for this life. Players who are keen on killing KCD2 NPCs should hear Jezhek out. His armor is gone. His honor, tattered. And his desperation runs deeper than his swordsmanship. Jezhek met his fate by challenging a commander in Sigismund’s army who wanted to raze a village. His good deed caused him dishonor, so he had to surrender his gear and has been wandering in shame ever since.

If players choose not to cut him down immediately, Jezhek explains his story and offers the quest Lost Honor, which tasks Henry with recovering his lost arms from Commander Zavish of Garbow. It’s one of those moments that makes the world of KCD2 feel heavier, where even would-be enemies carry burdens worth understanding. Mercy, in this case, is the key to uncovering a rare and personal quest, and perhaps helping a fellow knight find his way again.
