Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC has finally been given an official reveal in a short trailer that confirmed many of the speculations that had surrounded it up to this point. The expansion will see Henry exploring the legacy of his adoptive father, Martin, as he joins the Kuttenberg Blacksmiths Guild and takes over ownership of the forge where Martin spent his youth. In addition to its narrative, Legacy of the Forge will come packed with new content for the game, with its primary system revolving around rebuilding the forge and its surroundings, then customizing all of it, including a personal home for Henry. Needless to say, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 still has a lot in store for fans, and the Legacy of the Forge's September 9 launch date means the next bulk of it is just around the corner.
What makes Legacy of the Forge so special is that it is bringing into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 many of the features that fans have been requesting since launch — with a customizable home for Henry being one of the loudest requests. While this is great for it, however, it ultimately raises the bar for the game's third DLC, Mysteria Ecclesiae. That expansion is still months away, but it will nonetheless have its work cut out for it.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Third DLC Has Got to Deliver
Mysteria Ecclesiae May Find It Difficult to Top Legacy of the Forge
The thing about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC is that it is not only the answer to some of the most prominent fan requests, but it also has the potential to keep players busy for a very long time. The expansion's customization potential alone could make it one of the most defining KCD2 experiences yet, with over 130 million different combinations players can achieve when personalizing the forge, their home, and the surrounding area. Essentially, it sounds like a game within a game, as it effectively taps into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's cozy side with ease.
Something else that will undoubtedly set Legacy of the Forge apart is its story, which revolves around a character that has been around since the first game but whose backstory has largely remained a mystery: Martin, Henry's father. While Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can be played by series newcomers without any issues, Legacy of the Forge's story is still setup to appeal to veterans in a way that the previous DLC, Brushes With Death, and Mysteria Ecclesiae cannot. If nothing else, this DLC could be one of the most meaningful storylines in Kingdom Come: Deliverance history, raising the bar even higher for the third and potentially final expansion for the game.
Mysteria Ecclesiae Already Has a Lot Going for It, But Execution Will Be the Deciding Factor
At the moment, what is known about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC is that it will be taking players inside the Sedletz Monastery, which is almost entirely unexplorable in the base game, to cure what Warhorse has referred to as "medieval COVID." It has also been confirmed that will be similar in size to the game's Legacy of the Forge DLC, and it will be concluding Henry's story. Those two characteristics alone are enough to raise expectations for its impact, but that means it will need to work even harder to meet them.
In short, if Mysteria Ecclesiae doesn't tap into the same magic that Legacy of the Forge is clearly aiming at, it might find it difficult to close the book on a good chapter. Currently, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's third DLC is expected to be its final expansion, with Warhorse's focus then presumably shifting to a third entry in the series. If that truly is the case, Mysteria Ecclesiae needs to be the biggest, most explosive, most game-changing addition yet, as final impressions are just as important as first impressions, if not more so. It also wouldn't hurt Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's chances at winning 2025's Game of the Year award.
