Horses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are among the most important things Henry can own, as players will spend much of their time riding between villages and out into the open countryside. After getting Pebbles back at Semine, players may upgrade to one of the best early-game horses, all found within the Trosky region.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Best Armor
This guide will provide players with the best options for each layer of armor in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
However, once players reach the second map and Kuttenberg during the course of the story, they will gain access to the best horses in KCD2 if they have Groschen to pay. Horses have four stats: Stamina, Capacity, Speed, and Courage. What individuals prize the most will impact which horse they perceive as best. Remember that saddles, bridles, and other horse tack can improve these stats.
Updated on February 17, 2026, by Joe Grantham: Over a year since its release, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 now has 3 DLCs and has received multiple updates. As with everything else, Bohemia's finest horses have also received their fair share of buffs and nerfs. For example, the upgraded versions of Herring and Pebbles have both been made weaker across the board, except when it comes to their carrying capacity, now making them great as pack horses. In fact, all horses have had their capacity increased, helping Henry haul more loot around.
When comparing your horse's stats with another horse, remember that your horse's gear is buffing those stats. For a better comparison, take all the horse tack off.

- Stolen From: Bandit camp north-east of Bylany
Even for those doing an honorable Henry playthrough, it's not really stealing if it's from a bunch of bandits who are outside of the law. Meadow can be taken from the camp north-east of Bylany, south east of Pschitoky, and west of Kuttenberg, at the northern tip of the woods. Players may even be able to steal Meadow without killing any of the outlaws.
Meadow has one of the best capacities, high speed, top tier stamina, and average courage. Furthermore, if players aren't the biggest fans of Meadow, it has one of the highest values and the horse trader is just a short ride away to the north east.

Alongside Kincsem, Gringolet is the joint-fastest horse in KCD2, but with worse Stamina. However, its advantages over Kincsem are a much higher carrying capacity and courage. Grigolet has a brown coat and ash colored hair.
Unfortunately, Gringolet cannot be bought as this is Jezhek of Holohlavy's horse, and along with his armor, it was taken by Zavish of Garbow, who can be found at Sigismund's Camp. This feud is part of the Lost Honor quest, and players can try to win everything back or steal. Gringolet is found in the stables of Sigismund's Camp, wearing a yellow caparison.

- Stolen From: The Knights of Hradetz.
For those who own the Legacy of the Forge DLC, there is an unnamed horse that can be stolen during one of the repeating In the Service of the Guild quests. If the Knights of Hradetz are encountered, the horse can be stolen from outside a barn to the west of where St. Barbara's Cathedral is being constructed on the outskirts of Kuttenberg. It will not be present when the quest isn't taking place.
This horse has the joint-best courage in the game, meaning it's much harder for Henry to be thrown off when enemies are encountered. There are also only five faster horses, and yet its capacity is still high. Perhaps its only downside is stamina, but even then, it's not low.

Firstly, Kasztanka is one of the most beautiful horses in KCD2, with a nice bay coat and a braided tail. She also has the joint highest courage and almost ties as the fastest horse in the game. In any combat situation, this makes Kasztanka a great option, as Henry can fight or flee with no worries.
The drawbacks of Kasztanka are low stamina, meaning long journeys aren't the best, and she also has a fairly low carry weight. This can be problematic for those who like to loot everything they find.

With the second-best stamina and almost the best carrying capacity, Mark can be seen as a horse that is great for long journeys while carrying lots of gear and loot. As Henry often travels across the map from task to task, potentially killing multiple bandits before returning to civilization, Mark is great for this gameplay loop.
With a courage stat of 15, players may want to consider buffing this with some head armor and tournament caparison. Otherwise, players may run into some situations where Henry is thrown off. While Mark's speed isn't great, this won't matter if Henry has a high horsemanship skill rating.

Those who desire a true warhorse, or destrier as they would have been called in the Middle Ages, should look no further than Erdel. This black beauty has the highest courage in the game at 30, which can be improved upon with a tournament caparison, for example.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Real Life Locations You Can Visit
Many of the structures and locations in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are still standing, and fans can visit them in Czechia.
Erdel also has the highest carrying capacity at 368, meaning that after a battle, players can loot loads of heavy plate armor and store it all on their mount until they reach a merchant. These stats do come at a cost, however, as Erdel has relatively low stamina and does not boast the best speed.

If players are looking for the fastest horse in KCD2, especially for when horse races release, then Kincsem is easily the best option. Not only does she have the highest speed at 60, but she also has the best stamina with 235. The cost of being able to gallop at high speeds almost non-stop is that Kinscem's carrying capacity and courage are extremely low. Players won't be able to carry much weight, and she will kick Henry off at the slightest sign of danger.
If players ask Groom Hanniker about Kinscem, he will tell Henry that she is a Hungarian horse, who was sold by an officer in Sigismund's army. This is interesting as there was a 19th-century Hungarian racehorse called Kinscem who went undefeated over the course of 54 races, meaning this is another small KCD2 Easter egg, of which there are so many.

If players don't want to spend countless hours riding Pebbles or Herring until their secret Perks are unlocked, then Pisek Lad is the best all-around horse in KCD2 that players can purchase from a groom.
Across the board, he has relatively high stats, especially when it comes to capacity and speed. While his stamina and courage could be better, they certainly aren't weaknesses. Players may also like Pisek Lad's black coat. He can be bought at the horse market in the southwest of Kuttenberg, next to where the tournament is held.

- Location: Acquired from the Groom in Semine, possibly at no cost.
Pebbles was Henry's original horse in the first game and was never known for having the best stats. This is the same in the second game, after Henry recovers her from Semine, but KCD2 has a few hidden Perks, one of which turns Pebbles into a beast.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - 8 Small Details That Bring The World To Life
These small but great details in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 make the game feel real, as though players are walking through a living world.
By staying loyal to Pebbles and riding her for at least 35 km, Henry will unlock a secret Perk known as Good Old Pebbles. With this upgrade, Pebbles has good stamina, great capacity and speed, and decent courage, which means she won't throw Henry off in combat. All of this means that Pebbles arguably ranks as the second-best all-around horse.

- Location: Acquired at Trosky castle during the Back in the Saddle main quest.
When players are offered Herring in exchange for Pebbles by the horse handler at Trosky Castle, they likely have no idea that he can eventually become one of the best KCD2 horses. If players stick with Herring and ride him for at least 50 km (not including fast travel), then they will unlock the secret Perk, Red Herring.
This significantly improves Herring's stats, granting him the solid stamina, one of the top capacity ratings, great speed, and courage that isn't far off the best. This means Herring does everything well, without any downsides.
