While most matches in Killing Floor 3 are all about surviving waves upon waves of Zeds, the game does have a light narrative to it that puts the world and its characters in context. Instead of just being some random mercenary in previous games, players now play as Specialists of Nightfall, an organization meant to stop world-ending catastrophes from happening.
Investigating Horzine is part of Nightfall's job, and much of Killing Floor 3's story is experienced through narrated missions that take place in the game's maps. Sample Analysis is one such mission, and if you're confused about how and where to get the Zed Tech needed for it, here's a guide to help you out.
Killing Floor 3: The Evolution of Zeds Explained
The Best War Games sits down with Bill Munk, the lead combat designer for Tripwire Interactive's Killing Floor 3, to discuss the evolution of Zeds.
Where to Find Zed Tech in KF3 Sample Analysis Mission
Sample Analysis takes place in the R&D Lab map, and here, players need to find and analyze samples from the many bodies scattered around the facility. One of the mission's objectives includes finding Zed Tech, which you can find in the Testing Chamber and Holding Cells areas. Try not to let the evolved KF3 Zeds bite while you're searching the areas.
It's unclear if the Zed Tech spawn locations are the same for everyone, but you should be able to find them by keeping an eye out for yellow beams jutting out of the floor.
KF3 Testing Chamber Zed Tech Location
The Testing Chamber is the big room with the large meat grinder locked behind an equally-large door. Here, a Zed Tech piece can be found on one of the rubble mounds that lead to the second floor. In our playthrough, we found what appeared to be a Husk's arm cannon.
KF3 Holding Cells Zed Tech Location
The Holding Cells is the area where Horzine staff keep all of their live specimens. It's right next to the Testing Chamber, and you'll know you're there when you spot the holding cells themselves. In this area, you should be able to find Zed Tech pieces inside the breached holding cells.
After you pick up all the Zed Tech pieces, you'll be able to proceed with the rest of the mission. You'll need to bring the samples you found to a scanner inside the lab — don't worry, the game will show you where to go. In order to complete the Sample Analysis mission, you will need to see the current match all the way to the end, so lock in and enjoy KF3's revamped combat.
Recommendation
You can make any of these story missions easier by first thinning the incoming Zed wave and leaving only one enemy alive (preferably something slow like a Bloat, Screamer, or Cyst). Try not to chop off their legs, as they'll eventually die as you're running around the map looking for objectives to finish.
