Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi's brand-new animated music series Entergalactic, which looks to hit the popular streamer in September. The upcoming series is written by screenwriter/director Ian Edelman, alongside Kid Cudi, who also sits as executive producer for the series in partnership with Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.
The new Netflix original series takes its inspiration from the well-known musical artist's upcoming album, which will look to release on the same day as the animated music series. The story will center around a young artist named Jabari, voiced by Kid Cudi, attempting to balance love and success in an artistically magical New York City setting. Entergalactic will feature new music from Kid Cudi's upcoming album, serving as the soundtrack for the explosive romantic adventure.
The trailer showcases Jabari moving into a new apartment in New York City, which one character aptly labels "a bachelor pad," highlighting Jabari's attempt to move on from an extinguished relationship. The apartment, however, introduces Jabari to his new neighbor, setting the stage for intense navigation of love in the chaos of New York City. As one character states, "Love is the easiest thing in the world when it happens by accident, but it doesn't get real until you do it on purpose."
Alongside Kid Cudi, the animated music series will feature an incredibly talented cast, which will include notable actress Jessica Willaims. The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore star will voice Jarbari's new neighbor and series love interest, Meadow. Dune star Timothée Chalamet, Vanessa Hudgens, Laura Harrier, and well-known musical artist Ty Dolla $ign round out the well-assembled voice cast. Chalamet enters the series in a rare voice acting role and will voice Jabari's best friend, Jimmy, who happens to be a drug dealer in the series.
The artistic style of the animated series stands out heavily in the new footage and visually mirrors the animation used in the ground-breaking 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The artwork will look to play a significant role in the upcoming series, seeing as how Jabari and his brand-new neighbor are both artistic individuals. It will be interesting to see how Kid Cudi's music fuses with the series and if the vibrant nature of his fast-approaching album can successfully tell the story of two individuals trying to navigate the complicated knotted webs of love.
Entergalactic will hit Netflix on September 30, 2022.
