Because of the Switch 2, last year pales in comparison to June 2025. The previous year featured 13 releases, while this year offers a jaw-dropping 41 scheduled launches. While Death Stranding 2 and Mario Kart World are the highlights of the month, plenty of thrilling Switch 2 ports pad out the rest of the calendar.
Granted, last year saw some exciting launches, but expansions, anniversary releases, and smaller titles defined the month. This year, though, June is filled with some impressive heavy-hitters.
The Switch 2 launches on June 5.
Switch 2 Ports Take Up the Spotlight
From Cyberpunk 2077 to Split Fiction, some of the biggest games of the last few years are coming to the new console. Games as large as Cyberpunk 2077 being added to the Nintendo roster feels surreal, but the Switch 2 is making that possible.
Switch classics like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are a given, but CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG is one of the most intriguing additions to the Switch 2's lineup. However, beyond the Switch 2 launch titles, there are plenty of non-Nintendo options.
Newcomers like MindsEye, Dune Awakening and FBC Firebreak also give gamers exciting options. Even if the Switch 2 wasn't part of June's schedule, the aforementioned titles alongside Death Stranding 2 would be exciting enough. MindsEye aims for a blend of Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA, while Dune Awakening brings franchise lovers to Arrakis' deserts. FBC Firebreak is a multiplayer offering set in Remedy Entertainment's extended universe, which is a compelling change of pace for the developer.
Death Stranding is getting its own live-action adaptation produced by A24.

June 2025 Kicks Off a Big Summer for Gaming
With a fresh console and a deep well of new games, the summer is shaping up to be a huge moment for the industry. Of course, the Switch 2 has faced some controversy since its announcement, but Nintendo is still expected to have strong sales. The Switch 2 is introducing a new era for Nintendo, and it will be exciting to see how the console fares in its first few months.
June's calendar offers a robust list of games, making it one of the most exciting months of the year.
Beyond releases, events like the Xbox Games Showcase and Summer Game Fest bring even more to players. The June lineup being so packed with options can be overwhelming, but it helps balance out July's more mellow landscape.
As the year continues, it will be exciting to see how the rest of the year shapes up, but with titles like Death Stranding 2, Mario Kart World, and a new console generation, June promises a standout month.
