Every expedition in Jump Space will have players flying and managing their very own starship, and if the starting light corvette isn't quite up your alley, you'll be glad to know that there are more vessels to unlock during your quest to reach the galactic center.
Unlocking ships in Jump Space is fairly simple, but the game doesn't exactly tell you how to do it. In this guide, we'll be going over how to get each of the ships in the game as well as some tips on how to make the process a little less reliant on luck and other factors.
This guide is for the early access launch version of Jump Space, and as of writing, there are only two ships in the game. We'll update this guide as soon as more ships are added.
Roguelike Vs Roguelite: What's the Difference?
Roguelikes and Roguelites are hugely popular genres, but what makes something a Roguelike instead of a Roguelite?
How to Unlock Ships in Jump Space
To get a new ship, you need to find and reach a mission node that contains a Drifting Hull Active Event. These will start to appear once you unlock the second sector of the galactic map, and they can be found on any mission inside that region.
Drifting Hull events are completely random, but you'll know if your current expedition has one by checking your ship's star map. If you hover over the map nodes and find one with a green, glowing icon, then it will likely have a Drifting Hull in it. Hover your mouse over the node itself to check.
Once you reach a node with a Drifting Hull event, look around for a floating ship. The image above features a derelict DT-4 Dart, and in order to unlock that specific ship, you need to board the derelict and find its black box. Explore the ship and follow the green icon on your screen. Clear any bots inside, and make sure to loot any boxes as well.
Once you have the black box , you then need to complete the expedition. Much like in extraction-based games, if you fail to bring the black box home, you'll need to do everything all over again.
Try going on missions that are over an hour long if you're looking for Drifting Hulls. Long expeditions have more mission nodes, which means they have a higher chance of having a Drifting Hull event to appear. Additionally, you can simply return to the hangar if your current expedition doesn't have a Drifting Hull node.
All Ships in Jump Space
C-3 Catamaran
- Hit Points: 5
- Shield Units: 4
- Speed: 70
- Maneuverability: 60
- 1 pilot cannon, 2 special weapons, 5 artifact slots, 1 multi-turret slot
The Catamaran is your starting vessel, and it offers balanced performance across the board. It can take a decent beating with its high health and shield units, and it is fairly mobile by default too. This is a medium-sized ship with three decks for players to work with (cockpit, engineering, storage and crew quarters), making it perfect for a co-op session.
DT-4 Dart
The Dart is the complete opposite of the Catamaran. Despite being referred to as a heavy fighter, the Dart is a small and nimble vessel that's more suited for one or two players. Unlike the Catamaran, this ship does not have any multi-turret slots. The Dart can only use a single large special weapon (like a Railgun) as well as two pilot cannons, which means most of its firepower is controlled by the pilot and not the gunner. This configuration means the Dart is better suited for dogfighting than bombardment.
