First, players need to head to the New York Times Games Wordle website. There are loads of copycats, but this is the original version. Everything in this article will be focused on the NYT's version and not any of the others.

Once there, players need to choose a starting Wordle word. In order to pick a great starting word, players should know the limitations of Wordle puzzle answers. They:

Need to be five-letters long.
Need to be a real English word.
Cannot be a proper noun.
Are almost always the American versions of words.
Cannot be one of the potentially offensive Wordle words removed by the New York Times when it was purchased.

With these rules in mind, choose a starting word. Type it into the site and press enter. The letters will then change colors in order to give players some clues as to the real answer. Green letters are right, gray wrong, and yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word. Given these hints, players have six total guesses to get to the answer. There is only one puzzle a day, and it resets every day at midnight.
