The Scream franchise is one of the most popular in the history of horror, and it continues to deliver high-quality movies to this day. There is a lot of excitement for the release of Scream 7 on February 27, 2026, and the hype surrounding the slasher film is something that everyone in the entertainment industry will be looking to tap into between now and then.

Many fans will now be looking to watch the previous six Scream movies to refresh themselves before the new film. Many will use streaming services to do that, but that might be problematic when it comes to one particular movie in this franchise.

Scream 7 Has Pulled Out All The Stops, And I Think Failure Could Be Catastrophic

Scream 7 being a failure could have a catastrophic impact on the franchise moving forward.

Despite the fact that the next Scream movie is being released next year, What's On Netflix has confirmed that Netflix is removing Scream VI on July 25, which will be a disappointing piece of news for anyone who is a fan of the franchise. The streaming juggernaut regularly changes what's available in its library to keep things fresh for audiences while also dealing with different deals and partnerships that end up demanding when movies and television shows leave Netflix. Of course, there's always a chance Netflix will strike a new deal and bring Scream VI back down the line, but whether that happens before February of next year will remain to be seen.

Scream VI's departure isn't ideal timing, given that it is less than a year until Scream 7 is released, as there will undoubtedly be a rise in interest in movies from this franchise. Scream VI proved to be a popular movie anyway, having grossed $169.1 million worldwide upon its release. The opening weekend was the strongest of the entire franchise as the story developed and was taken to the next level.

Scream VI will likely play a significant role in the story that's eventually going to be told in Scream 7, making it an essential piece of the puzzle for fans. However, they will now have to seek out an alternative method of viewing the movie if they want to see how everything unfolds with Ghostface heading into the next film. However, Scream VI is also the only film in the franchise that doesn't feature Sidney Prescott, as Neve Campbell had a salary dispute that stopped her from reprising the role. She will be returning for Scream 7, and it remains to be seen how her absence will be explained or if the franchise will simply gloss over that to get into the next story.

There are various legacy characters being brought back to the franchise for Scream 7, which is why audiences need to rewatch many of the movies to get fully integrated with the storyline. However, there are going to be new plot points, and the Scream franchise does pride itself on delivering films that can be enjoyed on a standalone basis, even if people haven't viewed past content. However, for those wanting to watch Scream VI before next year, time is running out to decide whether Netflix is the streaming platform of choice.
