This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga.

The pilot chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been released, and fans are already dissecting every manga panel for hidden details that could connect the spin-off to the original series. Fans know that Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin’s grandchildren are leading the story, but many are still curious whether fan-favorite characters like Yuji Itadori and Sukuna will make an appearance.

And speaking of Sukuna, Gege Akutami sneakily inserted a Sukuna Easter egg in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 1. Most fans missed this detail due to the manga localization, which altered the detail slightly and made the reference less obvious. While Sukuna has yet to appear or reincarnate in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, subtle hints suggest that he may shake the story once again with his presence and power.

Sukuna Is Still Dead in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Sukuna’s Comeback Hasn’t Happened Yet

  • Sukuna is still missing in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
  • Sukuna died in the original series, but fans want him back.

In the original Jujutsu Kaisen series,Ryomen Sukuna, otherwise known as the King of Curses, terrorized the Jujutsu world with his terrifying strength, unnecessary killings, and twisted sense of honor. He had no concern for anyone else, for he existed only for leisure and amusement, exploiting anyone, especiallyYuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro, for his benefit and convenience.

It can be said that Ryomen Sukuna is the true embodiment of evil, someone who disregarded human life entirely. However, he was clearly not mindlessly evil, as Sukuna had no problem showing respect to someone’s strength, acknowledging their skills, and most surprisingly, keeping his word if it served his pride and honor. Still, this part of him never softened his cruelty, having killed many sorcerers, including Gojo Satoru.

No matter what era it is, you jujutsu sorcerers are a pain.—Ryomen Sukuna

Unfortunately, Sukuna’s reign of terror came to an end thanks to the combined efforts of Yuji Itadori and the rest of his allies. He died in Jujutsu Kaisen, and to this day, in JJK Modulo, Sukuna has yet to make a comeback. While Sukuna is the main antagonist of the original series, fans are still looking forward to his return, especially now that Gege sneakily inserted Sukuna in Modulo’s very first chapter.

Gege Drops Sukuna Easter Egg in JJK Modulo

The Wordplay on the Simurian’s Mothership Naunax

  • The Japanese name of the Simurian Mothership can be spelled as Naunakusu.
  • Naunakusu is Sukuna's name read backwards.

The first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, titled Special Grade Incident, introduced fans to extraterrestrial beings called Simurians, who are searching for a new place to inhabit for unknown reasons. The Simurians are eyeing Japan as their potential home after hearing about Jujutsu sorcerers possessing the same powers as them. As revealed, 50,000 Simurians are looking for a sanctuary, and they are staying aboard a mothership called Naunax.

Now, the Simurian mothership, Naunax, is the Sukuna Easter egg Gege Akutami slipped into Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which some fans eventually figured out. In the original Japanese version of the pilot chapter, the kanji of the Simurian mothership, Naunax, translates to “Na-U-Na-Ku-Su,” a phonetic spelling that mirrors how Sukuna’s name is pronounced but backwards or reversed.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Ryomen Sukuna Return

This makes the reference far clearer, suggesting that the alien race introduced in JJK Modulo might be connected to Ryomen Sukuna himself. Fans are quick to come up with theories saying Sukuna could be a Simurian, or Sukuna reincarnated as Maru, the mysterious outsider who became Yuka and Tsurugi’s companion. For now, nothing is certain, but this Sukuna Easter egg gives fans renewed hope that the King of Curses will make a shocking return sooner or later.

There Are One Piece References

Image of Shanks and Luffy

Believe it or not, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 1 pays homage to One Piece with two subtle references. The first one can be found on page 10, where one of the manga scattered on the floor shows a familiar silhouette of Shanks placing a straw hat on Luffy’s head. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to recognize this scene, even though the reference is easy to miss due to how small it was drawn.

The second One Piece reference in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is easier to recognize. It can be found on page 42, when Yuka remembers seeing her brother Tsurugi swinging a dumbbell-like bar with metal weight discs, a familiar scene that mirrors Roronoa Zoro’s early training exercise, where he also swings the same dumbbell-like bar but with absurdly large metal weight discs.

With these two references, it won’t be a surprise if future chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo also contain subtle and obvious nods to One Piece and other popular series like Naruto, Dragon Ball, or even Bleach.
