Jujutsu Kaisen: Best Female Characters In The Show

Female characters can sometimes get sidelined in shonen anime, but Jujutsu Kaisen does these women justice.

Women in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen have shown time and again how powerful they could be in a near-limitless world. Just as Satoru Gojo doesn’t restrict his definition of weak and strong by pure fighting power, female sorcerers with non-combat skills and offensive techniques are both considered powerful and irreplaceable in JJK’s world.

Updated on December 5, 2023, by Rie Takumi: With Jujutsu Kaisen seemingly approaching its final arcs, its cast of female and female-presenting characters grows. Some have no power at all, while others are proving or were proven pivotal in key plot points. Fans anticipate the return of a few female sorcerers, but mangaka Gege Akutani may introduce more women to shake up the current status quo.

12 Kaori Itadori

Possessed Mysterious Power Obtained By Kenjaku

Kaori Itadori cursed technique, yuji, and kenjaku's true form

Although her skill was only mentioned in passing, Kaori Itadori’s ability has tremendous potential. Kaori’s stated reverse cursed technique is Antigravity System. The specific effect of the technique has not been revealed, but without it, series villain Kenjaku would have succumbed to Yuki Tsukumo’s unrelenting attacks.

Ultimately, the potential of Kaori Itadori’s skill is what makes her a posthumously powerful character. Kenjaku’s possession of this technique could prove dangerous in any final confrontation with the villain. Moreover, the fact that this technique was engraved on the brain of Kaori, the mother of series hero Yuji Itadori, means there is a chance he could awaken to it. Lastly, it could prove to be a natural countermeasure against Satoru Gojo’s gravity-related abilities.

11 Mimiko And Nanako Hasaba

Twin Long-Range Manipulation

Mimiko Hasaba Nanako Hasaba suguru geto's adoptive daughters

Finding Mimiko and Nanako was the final straw for Suguru Geto. As children, they were imprisoned and sentenced to death via Geto by their own village. Geto killed the village instead and left with Mimiko and Nanako.

Since then, Mimiko and Nanako developed their own long-range, non-physical jujutsu techniques. Mimiko can hang people using rope and her doll, while Nanako can manipulate anyone she’s taken a picture. Unfortunately for the twins, Sukuna ended them even as they asked for the Geto back.

10 Shoko Ieiri

Foremost Reverse Cursed Energy User

Shoko Ieri manga high school and adulthood, shot from anime

Shoko Ieiri is another reverse cursed technique user. Like Kaori, the very nature of her ability, which turns negative cursed energy into positive energy, makes her immensely valuable. In fact, Shoko’s technique is rare enough for her to be pulled from missions during her student days to avoid any possible accidents.

Shoko is a non-combatant as well, but her ability to use cursed energy to heal other people’s injuries makes her a powerful ally. Without Shoko, more sorcerers would have died during the Shibuya Incident, Mahito’s victims would not have been identified as such, and the effect of the Culling Game’s cursed technique removal clause would remain a mystery.

9 Utahime Iori

Area-of-Effect Power Boost

Utahime Iori cursed technique dance and amplification

Utahime Iori was labeled as weak and strong by Gojo, but given Gojo’s mindset, it’s intimated to readers that these comments have different connotations. Her physical body is not as powerful as other sorcerers, but her sense of justice and responsibility both make her a great ally.

Her innate technique also makes her the ultimate support sorcerer next to Shoko. Utahime’s Solo Forbidden Area amplifies her and any targeted sorcerer’s cursed energy on its own. Its effect is boosted to 120% when combined with a Kagura-like routine, or a dance by shrine maidens set to music.

8 Nobara Kugisaki

Bruiser With Ranged Long-Range Techniques

Although online wars have been waged over her status, it’s undeniable that Nobara is one of JJK’s most remarkable characters. Her cursed technique, Resonance, allows her to deal lethal damage to an opponent using effigies in their body’s place. She is also willing to use her own body to deal damage and use her enemies’ own bodies to strike their souls, just as she did to Mahito.

Nobara’s personality has also earned her fans. She is unapologetically abrasive, confident, and completely loyal to people who earn her respect. As such, her popularity put her in the 13th spot of the 2023 JJK popularity poll, despite having been out of the spotlight for a while.

7 Hana Kurusu

Megumi’s Secret Admirer Paired With Ancient Heavenly Sorcerer

Angel Hana Kurusu shouting Megumi belongs to me to Sukuna meme Jacob's Ladder

As a child, Hana Kurusu was held captive by a cursed spirit for a year. When a similarly-aged Megumi rescued her, she vowed to help people like he did. Through unknown means, she merged with Angel, an ancient sorcerer who vowed to eradicate Sukuna and other similarly incarnated sorcerers.

Angel can negate cursed techniques, such as barriers, enemy techniques, and seals. By memorizing Angel’s innate technique, Hana is able to fly, cross Colonies during the Culling Game, and eventually bring back Satoru Gojo. Together, they were also able to unleash Jacob’s Ladder, a cursed technique that almost extinguished Sukuna.

6 Master Tengen

Immortality With A Cost

Master Tengen current psychic form, real body, human body

Master Tengen's human form caused a stir after it was revealed that they were originally a woman. At present, Master Tengen is more a cursed spirit than a human. But she remains a powerful cursed technique user as they were when she was mostly human.

Despite being a non-combatant, she manipulates countrywide barriers that make fighting cursed spirits easier for modern-day sorcerers. Chapter 220 notes that undoing her barriers would have made it “necessary to redo the never-ending fight with cursed spirits and reclaim barrier technique know-how from a thousand years ago.”

5 Mei Mei

Capitalist Sorcerer With Lethal Avian Bombs

Mei Mei in Jujutsu Kaisen

Mei Mei wasn’t born with an immediately useful innate ability like Utahime, nor was she given a once-in-a-lifetime skill like Shoko or Kaori. Her innate technique, Black Bird Manipulation, was initially weak and suited for scouting. But with intense training, and a huge chip on her shoulder, Mei was able to create Bird Strike out of it, a technique so powerful that only Gojo has ever survived it.

Her personality may irk some fans, but as far as her allies are concerned, Mei appears to be completely trustworthy. She may require a cool ¥10,000,000 to come to someone’s aid, but like Utahime, she could never be a mole.

4 Takako Uro

Space Distortion And Manipulation

Takako Uro introduction, three way battle, battle with yuta

Takako Uro is one of the ancient jujutsu sorcerers brought back to life for the Culling Game. She’s also a particularly dangerous sorcerer to have incarnated. She put Yuta Okkotsu on the defense along with other incarnated sorcerers, which is not an easy feat to pull when he is considered one of the most powerful jujutsu sorcerers in the modern era.

The former captain of the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad of the Fujiwara Family used an incredible innate technique to pull it off. Sky Manipulation distorts space and turns the sky into a material she can break, slip through, and wield like a weapon.

3 Yorozu

Omnipotent Constructor With A Crush On Sukuna

Yorozu possessing megumi's sister, transformed, with sukuna

Yorozu is a Heian-era sorcerer whose incarnation, let alone history, immediately made her public enemy number one for a lot of long-time fans. Her vessel aside, Yorozu’s Construction jujutsu would have obliterated a lesser opponent than Sukuna, the king of curses.

Energy-inefficient as it is, Yorozu’s mental catalog of substances allowed her to recreate any substance she wanted out of nothing. Some of these constructs are liquid metal that could pierce, smash, and contract infinite pressure, and a near-impervious insect armor. Sukuna, the love of her life, eventually acknowledged her power by summoning the uncontrollable shikigami he had trouble fighting, Mahoraga, to finish her off.
