Gojo Satoru was the face of Jujutsu Kaisen, despite not being the main character of the series, and his popularity among the fans certainly goes to show for it. With the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, fans of Gojo Satoru certainly had a very hard fact to live with. In the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the series, Gojo Satoru met his end in the battle against Ryomen Sukuna after he let his guard down, allowing for Curses to strike him down once and for all.

There were quite a lot of theories surrounding Gojo Satoru's eventual return. Gege Akutami reaffirmed that he always intended for Gojo to die. However, Gojo's death certainly wasn't in vain, because eventually, Japan did go on to find a replacement for him, as is quite clear. In Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Modulo, Gojo's official replacement was confirmed to the fans, and he is now actively showcasing his incredible power to the readers, especially over the course of the last few chapters. This character is none other than the protagonist of the old series, Yuji Itadori, to whom Gojo entrusted his own dream.

Gojo Satoru Has Been Dead For 68 Years In Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Fans wanted Gojo to return at the end of the series
  • Gege had always planned for Gojo to die

Gojo Satoru met his end in chapter 236 of Jujutsu Kaisen. In the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the series, Gojo fought against Ryomen Sukuna, and the two fought a tremendous battle that saw both utilize the peak of Jujutsu Sorcery. For the vast majority of the fight, Gojo Satoru was dominant in battle, with moments where Sukuna completely overwhelmed him as well. However, at the end of it all, Gojo was the one who fell, because Sukuna's overall knowledge of Jujutsu sorcery was superior to his, and more importantly, because Gojo let his guard down and Gege Akutami wanted him out of the way for the plot to progress.

I love everyone and don't feel lonely now, but somewhere along the way, there was a line I drew, not as a human but as a living creature. You can make a flower bloom, you can admire it, but you can't tell that flower, "I want you to understand me." — Gojo Satoru to Suguru Geto, JJK Chapter 236

Gojo gave a tremendous display of strength and, at times, showed that he was even superior to the King of Curses, but what matters is that Gojo lost the battle and died for good. While fans had hoped for a return of Gojo Satoru toward the end of the series, this return never materialized, and Gojo has remained dead ever since.

68 years have passed since the conclusion of the Shinjuku Showdown, and Gojo only lives in the memories of the Sorcerers. Japan has moved forward quite a lot, and a new era of peace has been instilled in the country. However, in the era of JJK Modulo, a new species of aliens has come to planet Earth to establish a new country for themselves. To avoid conflict and deliver a swift resolution, Yuji Itadori has finally shown himself. Based on his recent showing, it is quite clear to the fans to see that he is a true heir of Gojo Satoru and a perfect replacement for him.

If there's one thing that defined Gojo Satoru in the original JJK series, it is the fact that he was the strongest. While it may sound fascinating to fans, it was also a curse to a certain degree because he was essentially seen as a weapon by many. It seems that this curse of being the strongest has now passed on to Yuji Itadori, who has shown himself properly in JJK Modulo chapters 19 and 20. It was quite clear from his brief display that he is incredibly powerful. Yuji Itadori is said to be the most powerful sorcerer in the whole country, and this is especially the case because all the others, such as Yuta Okkotsu, are dead.

Haven't we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? — Yuji Itadori

When the duel against Dabura was first announced, Japan's first step was to look for Yuji Itadori. Unfortunately, they could not locate him, which is what led to Yuka joining the battle instead, and utilizing the power of Mahoraga in the fight. Now, Yuji Itadori has shown himself and it seems that he intends to stop the conflict between the humans and the aliens, as well as to allow the next generation to rise above adversity and establish themselves as the strongest. Yuji Itadori has taken a path startlingly different from Gojo Satoru, despite being his replacement.

While both Yuji and Gojo were the strongest, the latter actively protected his students, all the while ensuring that they went on to reach the next level. Yuji seems to follow a different path. He is throwing the next generation in the deep end and seeing if they are fit to survive or not. In either case, Yuji is ready to clean up the mess, which means that if the next generation fails, then and only then will he intervene and fight against the calamity that is Dabura.

Yuji's Overall Power Level

In terms of overall power, it goes without saying that Yuji is an absolute monster right now. He has completely managed to master the Shrine Cursed technique, as well as Blood Manipulation. He has reached a point where it seems like he can even hit the black flash at will, and that makes him the strongest in Japan at this point in time.

What's even crazier is that Yuji Itadori is essentially undying. His body resembles a Cursed spirit just as Tengen's did at one point, and it simply does not age any longer. This has brought Yuji a lot of solitude, because all the friends around him keep falling one by one. At the same time, however, it has given him incredible strength, because unlike others, he doesn't lose anything to age. In a way, this curse that he wields has made him more akin to Gojo than anyone else.

Yuji Is Carrying Gojo’s Will In The New Sequel

Yuji Itadori Lives By Gojo's Words

It was made quite clear to the fans in the story that Yuji Itadori is carrying on the will of Gojo Satoru. Before Gojo died, he asked Yuji to forget about him and to develop a strength that is different from his own. It seems that Yuji has taken that to heart and that he is second-guessing himself at every single opportunity now. Yuji is trying to live by Gojo's words but is refusing to see what Gojo truly meant. Gojo raised the next generation to be stronger than him. In Yuji's mindset, he is trying to do the same for the next generation; however, Yuji is going about it in the wrong way.

For instance, Yuka is already terminally ill and dying of cancer. For Yuji to not step in and protect her is objectively the wrong decision. If Gojo were in his stead, he would most certainly go on to rescue Yuka, and fight Dabura on his own. After all, Gojo was incredibly protective of his students and always sided with them.

Yuji seems to have lost a part of his charm, but that is what makes his character so much more entertaining now. It seems that a big part of JJK Modulo is going to be focused on Yuji finding himself once again and realizing what Gojo's will to him truly meant. This can only happen once he heads to the battlefield where Dabura is taking on Mahoraga, and fans absolutely cannot wait for his character to develop even further.
