There’s no denying that Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the biggest and most influential shōnen action manga and anime franchises in recent years. So it will certainly leave a huge hole in the industry now that it has finally reached its anticipated conclusion. However, this recognizable series may return sooner rather than later.

Jujutsu Kaisen Manga: 10 Characters Who Got Underwhelming Endings

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in spectacular fashion, but not every character got an awesome ending.

It’s not uncommon for authors of popular shōnen franchises to make supplemental material after the original story is over, and this trend led many fans to believe that author Gege Akutami will go back to this fascinating world of sorcerers and curses that he has created. Whether it’s a sequel or a spinoff, here are six reasons as to why another manga set in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen may become a reality in the near future.

6 Gege Akutami Wants To Keep Making Manga

Despite All Of His Struggles, He Wants To Keep Working In The Medium

In the Author’s Comment of the final chapter, Gege Akutami stated that he’s preparing himself for his next challenge, which alluded to the fact that he plans to keep making more manga in the future. This is quite admirable, because it means he wants to use his talents to create more stories, despite all the health issues he went through during the production of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Gege Akutami may be hinting that his next challenge will be another story set in the world of his critically acclaimed manga that put him on the map in the first place. Of course, there’s also a possibility that he plans to write and illustrate an entirely new story that has nothing to do with Jujutsu Kaisen. Regardless of what he decides to do, it’s most likely that it’ll end up being as solid as his previous work.

5 Jujutsu Kaisen Is Technically Already A Sequel

The Main Series Is A Follow-Up Of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High

Fans tend to forget that the main Jujutsu Kaisen series is technically a continuation of the 2017 4-chapter manga, Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, which was retroactively changed into Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High. Readers were originally introduced to this captivating world through the eyes of Yuta Okkotsu, way before the focus was eventually shifted to Yuji Itadori and his friends.

Most manga authors usually create several one-shots and short stories before eventually landing on their first mainstream success, but Gege Akutami was clever enough to connect his biggest hit to one of his previous works. There is a precedent for him making more than one story set within this one world, which means that he may decide to do this once again for his next project.

4 Sequels And Spinoffs Have Worked For Other Shōnen Manga

This Format Has Worked For Other Similar IPs In The Past

Almost every successful shōnen manga series that originated in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has had a sequel or a spinoff made either before or after its completion. Some of the most renowned examples are the Naruto sequel, Boruto, the Demon Slayer spinoff, Stories of Water and Flame and the My Hero Academia spinoffs, Vigilantes and Team-Up Missions.

It’s quite surprising that there still aren’t any official Jujutsu Kaisen spinoffs but, now that the main manga’s story is over, Shueisha may already have plans to expand this unique universe. Of course, this also means that there’s a possibility that a spinoff series like this one may be actually be written and illustrated by a different author, and supervised by Gege Akutami, seeing as this has happened before (with Boruto being the most famous example).

3 The Manga Left Many Unanswered Questions

There Are Multiple Plot Ploints That Were Not Properly Closed Off

The ending to Jujutsu Kaisen was highly controversial for a number of different reasons, with one of the biggest ones being the numerous plot threads that were left open by the author, and all the burning questions related to them that were unfortunately left unanswered.

Many fans are still wondering what happened during the Heian Era, where Mahoraga came from, what happened to the members of the U.S. Military that traveled to Japan and much more. Although it is uncertain, there’s a slight possibility that Gege Akutami left all those unanswered questions because he plans on answering them all in a future project, regardless of if it's in a sequel or a spinoff.

2 A Wonderful World That Could Be Further Explored

It Would Be Great To Know More About Other Jujutsu Societies Around The World

Even though it’s explicitly stated within the story that Japan is the country with the highest number of curses and Jujutsu sorcerers, it has been confirmed that there are sorcerers in other locations, with Miguel Oduol from Kenya being the most prominent example. This has left fans wondering about their respective Jujutsu societies and the type of curses that they have to exorcise on a daily basis.

Gege Akutami created a truly unique and intriguing world of curses, cursed energy and sorcerers that needs to be explored in more depth. Therefore, a new project set inside this established fictional universe would be the perfect opportunity to take a look at other aspects of this world that were never seen in the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

1 MAPPA Needs More Content For The Anime

This Awe-Inspiring Animated Show Should Keep Going On

Official key visual for season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime.

Needless to say, Jujutsu Kaisen wouldn’t have been the huge worldwide success it is if it wasn’t for the animated adaptation by MAPPA that put the IP on the map back in 2020. With its awe-inspiring animation, intricate fight choreography, beautiful score and incredible voice acting, this high-quality anime has made a huge impact on the entire industry.

While MAPPA still has a lot of content from the manga to adapt before they reach the ending, it would be a shame if such an amazing, entertaining and influential anime ceased its production someday. So, a new sequel or spin-off would breathe new life into this show, preferably made by talented animators that will be working under better conditions.
