This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
When it comes to legendary manga magazines, Weekly Shonen Jump is quite easily the best of all, and for big reasons. Weekly Shonen Jump saw the birth and serialization of many legendary series, which include the likes of Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and, of course, newer stories like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.
Jujutsu Kaisen: 23 Powerful Quotes By Yuji Itadori
Yuji Itadori is the source of many inspirational and thought-provoking quotes in Jujutsu Kaisen. Here are some of his best.
Sadly for Shone Jump, it seems that times are a bit rough at the moment, especially after the end of My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen back-to-back in 2024. Since then, Weekly Shonen Jump hasn't really found a true replacement. But recently, a new series has proven that it can compete with those two, and that series is none other than the official sequel of Jujutsu Kaisen, known as Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Modulo has proven to be the biggest new manga, and fans can't wait for what else Gege has in store for them with this short but phenomenal sequel.
Weekly Shonen Jump Lost Two of Its Biggest Series In 2024
- My Hero Academia Ended in August 2024
- Jujutsu Kaisen Ended in September 2024
Weekly Shonen Jump is experiencing one of its toughest times in the last decade. As fans might remember, in late 2024, two of Weekly Shonen Jump's biggest series ended. What made things worse was the fact that they ended almost back-to-back, leaving a huge gap in the magazine. These series are My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, two of the pillars of modern shonen as well as the Jump magazine.
My Hero Academia is a shonen series that first kick-started in Weekly Shonen Jump all the way back in 2014. Ten years later, it ended in August 2024, with 430 chapters. Fans were definitely heartbroken to see Deku's story end, but, at the very least, the story ended up receiving a solid conclusion. After the end of the anime, the series’ sales are now going to decline.
Jujutsu Kaisen, meanwhile, followed the story of Yuji Itadori and featured some incredible battles of Sorcerers. The final arc of JJK was doing incredible numbers for Weekly Shonen Jump. While JJK started in 2018, it had a rather short run and ended only a while after My Hero Academia, in September 2024, with 271 chapters in total. Unlike My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen is still getting a lot of backlog sales at the moment with its anime being nowhere near the end. JJK was even 2025’s second-best-selling manga, despite no new volume being released.
Either way, both JJK and My Hero Academia were major sellers for Jump, so it definitely wasn't easy for the magazine to part ways with them. At the moment, it could be said that the only big manga out there for Weekly Shonen Jump is One Piece. However, now, a new hit series has risen, and its sales can even compare to what the likes of My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen used to achieve once.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is The Perfect Replacement For MHA And JJK
- Modulo Volume 1 Sales Prove It Can Replace Both JJK and MHA
- Modulo Will End After A Short Run
Jujutsu Kaisen ended in 2024, but its creator, Gege Akutami, actually returned just a year later in 2025. Gege Akutami returned with a new story set 68 years after the events following the Sukuna battle in the same world of Jujutsu Kaisen. This new story was named Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and it has shown great potential already.
As some fans might know, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has just released its very first manga volume, and already, it has become a huge sensation. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo went on to be the highest-selling volume upon its release. On top of that, it also broke a new record. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo became the number one highest-selling new manga of all time for Weekly Shonen Jump.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Officially Kills Off His Main Character
JJK's sequel marked the beginning of a new era for the series. The death of Gege's main character is now official.
Of course, while big sales are expected from a legacy series like Modulo, it is still impressive, especially when seeing the likes of Boruto were also serialized in this very magazine at one point.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo is filling the gap left behind by two giants at the moment, and it can definitely be said that it's showing up to be a perfect replacement for both its predecessor series, Jujutsu Kaisen, and also My Hero Academia.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Amazing, But It’s Set To End In A Few Months
- Gege Could Start a New Manga After Modulo
- Horikoshi Could Start His Own New Series Soon
Fans have been loving every second of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. The series first started a few months ago, in September of 2025, and it has only gained more popularity as well as received tremendous praise since.
Sadly, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo cannot be a permanent replacement for the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. As many fans may have already heard, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a rather short manga.
Gege Akutami himself has stated at the beginning of Modulo that he does not intend for it to be a long manga. Modulo is expected to only get around three volumes and run for about six months in total. While fans had hoped that Gege would change his mind, at the current state of things, it's obvious that Modulo is still going to be made into a short manga.
After all, the big battles of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which are Tsurugi vs Maru and Dabura vs Yuka, have already both started, with one of these battles having already almost concluded.
Of course, there are still a few things fans are waiting to see happen, like Yuji Itadori's return. But other than that, the manga doesn't have long left.
Instead, fans do hope that Gege Akutami returns either with another Jujutsu Kaisen sequel that is set in the huge gap between the original series and Modulo, or a brand new manga.
Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, has also previously stated that he would like to start a brand new series. A brand new story by Horikoshi would be an incredible hit, even if he decides to never return to the world of My Hero Academia.
Fans would definitely love to see both Gege and Horikoshi return to Jump with long-running series, and it will most likely happen at some point in the future. However, information on when these new projects could be coming is still scarce. For now, fans should just enjoy whatever is left of Modulo as the battles heat up.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 has officially begun and currently, it's airing the Culling Game arc. The story continues the adventure of Yuji Itadori after the sealing of Gojo Satoru in Shibuya. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 will have two cours, with a short break in between. JJK Season 3 Episode 3 is set to air on January 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM PT. In the UK, the episode will air at 5:00 PM GMT. Jujutsu Kaisen also has a manga sequel that's currently ongoing, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which is set 68 years after the conclusion of the main story.
