This article contains spoilers from the JJK Modulo manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are having the time of their lives with the premiere of JJK Season 3 and the continued release of new JJK Modulo chapters. The series created by Gege Akutami is arguably one of the biggest, if not the most popular, franchises right now, with all the content it continues to release even after the original manga has ended.
Between JJK Season 3 and JJK Modulo, fans are more concerned with the sequel due to Yuji Itadori’s seemingly dark role. Roughly 62 years have passed, and something has clearly changed within Yuji. Instead of seeing an upbeat Yuji, JJK Modulo continues to establish him as dark and edgy with the scar and the hood. His new look is cool, but fans are beginning to feel scared for him.
Jujutsu Kaisen 3 Modulo Sequel: Everything You Need To Know
Jujutsu Kaisen 3 Modulo is coming out this week, and fans are hyped.
Yuji Itadori Is Dark and Edgy in JJK Modulo
The Passage of Time Drives Yuji into a Dark Place
- Yuji Itadori has changed.
- Yuji Itadori isolated himself.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been consistent in showing a dark and edgy Yuji Itadori in recent chapters. While the sequel has yet to show Yuji’s entire face, the combined appeal of his scar and the hoodie on his head gives off a disconnected and unapproachable look. In comparison to his previous appearance, this darker version of Yuji feels far more hardened and withdrawn.
One of the reasons behind Yuji's drastic change is his unaging state. While his friends and loved ones go through the natural process of aging, Yuji remains untouched by time, eternally unable to grow older alongside those he cares about. Worse, Yuji had to attend the funerals of his friends one after another, turning grief into a cycle he can never escape unless someone far stronger than him kills him.
For someone who has been through so much in his life, the dark change in Yuji is inevitable and understandable at the same time. He didn’t change overnight, as he was worn down, one loss at a time. He no longer seeks connection but instead moves forward alone. Also, it doesn’t help that the fate of the world now rests on his shoulders. It’s an additional pressure that pushes him further into isolation.
Yuji Itadori’s New Power Comes at a Huge Cost
Saving the World Is Yuji’s Heaviest Burden
- Yuji Itadori is the new strongest sorcerer in JJK.
- Japan's last line of defense is Yuji Itadori.
As Yuji changes, the Jujutsu world in JJK Modulo changes alongside him. As fans know, the sorcerers in the modern era have grown significantly weaker compared to the sorcerers of the past. Unfortunately, no sorcerer has reached the same power level as Gojo Satoru, Yuji Itadori, Yuta Okkotsu, or even Maki Zenin, to name a few, making the Jujutsu world more vulnerable to Sukuna-level threats.
The decline in sorcerer strength is obvious, placing the pressure of saving the world and fighting powerful villains on the only remaining sorcerer capable of standing against them: Yuji Itadori. Without a doubt, Yuji is the strongest sorcerer in JJK Modulo, having faced challenges that no other sorcerer could endure and emerging stronger each time. The Japanese government even relies on him, treating him as the last line of defense.
I will keep killing curses till I rust away because that is my role in this war.—Yuji Itadori
Right now, the world needs Yuji, but the strongest sorcerer seems unbothered in the presence of Simurians in Japan. Instead of fighting Dabura head-on as the Jujutsu council wants to, Yuji remains in isolation, almost as if he has grown tired of his role as the protector of the world. It seems like he has lost all the motivation to fight for others, despite the power he holds.
The World May Have to Survive Without Yuji Itadori
The recent chapters of JJK Modulo revolve around Tsurugi and Maru’s fight, as well as Dabura and Mahoraga’s showdown. There’s no Yuji Itadori in sight, but he has appeared in flashbacks, specifically in Tsurugi’s story, where he met up with Iori Okkotsu before his disappearance.
Because of this, it’s only natural to anticipate Yuji’s further absence from JJK Modulo. His role, perhaps, is to cast a shadow over the story, making his absence as impactful as any battle he could fight. In other words, Yuji doesn’t always need to be at the forefront to shape the events.
