This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the biggest manga hits of all time for the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. When this series by Gege Akutami concluded in 2024, the magazine took a major hit. Fortunately, however, Gege Akutami was willing to make a return with a brand new sequel called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Modulo is a sequel with different characters that is set years in the future. Needless to say, fans have fallen in love with this story despite featuring, for the most part, a brand new cast of characters. Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo has enjoyed a stunning run so far, but its end is now quickly approaching. Weekly Shonen Jump has already hinted at the story's conclusion, and it might be wrapping up within the next few weeks.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Began On September 8, 2025
Gege Hinted At A 3 Volume Long Run
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo began its run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on September 8, 2025 — about a year after the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga. The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga has proven to be a major success. Its first volume, which was released in January 2026, was a big hit and went on to be one of the best-selling series of the month. Of course, JJK Modulo has a major legacy behind it. It is a sequel set 68 years after the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which was a sensation all over the world. As such, it was always going to be a big hit.
Immediately after its beginning, Gege Akutami dropped an important message hinting at the length of this manga and setting up expectations for fans. In his message, Gege Akutami stated that he believes the Modulo manga will run for about three volumes, or six months of weekly releases.
“The opportunity to think about a lot of different ideas, like expanding on a part of the main story, refining some specific background setup, changing the time period, or even making a parallel story; and thus Modulo, which was actually the most crazy idea during its concept stage, came to fruition after going through serialisation meetings.
It's a very short, intensely compact serialisation. It'll be about six months worth of work (if it's not cancelled).
About three volumes worth.
The illustrations are drawn by the renowned Iwasaki Yuuji!! Amazing!! So great!! Absolutely stunning!!
I hope everyone can enjoy Modulo as a new sort of introduction to Jujutsu!” — Gege Akutami
Naturally, fans were disappointed to hear that. When the sequel was first announced, some believed it could be a full-fledged normal-length manga like its predecessor, Jujutsu Kaisen. Many fans still held on to hope that despite Gege's message, it would continue for longer. However, as is evident from the pacing of the series and the current unfolding events, Gege’s estimate seems realistic. JJK Modulo's ending has now been heavily hinted at by the latest announcement made in Jump, and it’s definitely a disappointing update.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Could Be Ending In The Next 3 Chapters
Three Weekly Shonen Jump Cover Pages Announced Back to Back
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is definitely at its peak at the moment. A couple of chapters ago, Dabura's main battle with Yuka Okkotsu began, and on top of that, Tsurugi Okkotsu also took on Maru. Tsurugi and Maru's battle is already over, and Dabura is soon to destroy Mahoraga. Of course, there is also the new shocking plot twist introduced by Gege, which involves Yuji and Maru changing the world of Jujutsu Kaisen forever by getting rid of all cursed energy. With that, the story is definitely reaching a climax. Still, it was anticipated, at the very least, to see around 10 chapters more. However, a recent reveal from Weekly Shonen Jump seems to point to an earlier conclusion of this sequel.

It was revealed by Weekly Shonen Jump that in Issues 13, 14, and 15, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo will have a cover page each time. For context, a series having three color pages back-to-back is basically unheard of in the history of Weekly Shounen Jump. With such a historical moment unfolding for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it’s believed to be a sendoff for Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen. As things stand, the series could be ending with Weekly Shounen Jump Issue 15. If Gege plans to end the manga in 3 chapters, it would make sense to see Weekly Shonen Jump offering him so much spotlight. Of course, that is just speculation, and not yet confirmed by the magazine.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Could Still Have More in Store For Fans
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is feared to be ending in the next three weeks due to the Jump cover pages. But, as stated by Jump, this might also just be down to how successful Gege Akutami and his story have been in the magazine. If that's the case, then Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo would likely continue for a couple more chapters before reaching the end.
The current story of JJK Modulo revolves around Yuji and Maru's plan to eradicate cursed energy. Getting rid of Cursed Energy is a plot point revealed all the way back in the original JJK by Yuki. As the main story progressed, this plot point was completely forgotten, but Gege is now bringing it back up in Modulo. While Yuji and Maru could be successful, it could also very well be that it all backfires. If that were to happen, something akin to the Merger could unfold, and the results would be cataclysmic.
All that is to say that if Gege Akutami wants to continue the story, he could very easily go on to do just that. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s current storyline is very versatile and it can either end in 3 chapters, or it could be extended even further and given more time to become even more successful.
Even if Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo ends, there is also the possibility of the series getting another sequel. As fans know, there is a major time gap between the original Jujutsu Kaisen and Modulo of 68 years. This time gap could easily be explored by Gege Akutami in a new manga, and fans would absolutely love that. Seeing the original cast in their primes is something many fans have been itching to see. Either way, Gege Akutami is far too profitable for the magazine to let go so easily. Jump surely hasn't seen the last of him. Sooner or later, Gege Akutami will return to Jump because he's incredibly talented and Jump also needs him to carry the torch for the next generation of Shonen Manga.
