Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo continues to surprise fans with its incredible world-building, which the original series only hinted at but never fully explored. Series creator Gege Akutami is evidently working hard to expand the Jujutsu Kaisen universe with richer lore, much to the delight of longtime fans who wanted answers to mysteries left unsolved in the main story.

Mahito is one of the most memorable villains in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, which many fans credit to his complex personality. Many fans still fear him because of the trauma he inflicted not only on Nanami and Nobara but also on Yuji Itadori. It’s hard to forget someone like Mahito, who caused so much pain and suffering with his merciless actions and twisted sense of purpose.

When Mahito was absorbed by Pseudo-Geto during the Shibuya Incident arc, many fans thought that it was the end for him. However, Jujutsu Kaisen has long established that it’s possible for disaster curses like Mahito to reincarnate, leading fans to assume he will eventually return in a different form without his memories sometime in the future. Fans can’t let go of Mahito, and those who wanted to see him again finally got an unexpected development in JJK Modulo.

Surprisingly, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 7 drops a Mahito sighting, shocking fans who believed the sadistic curse was gone for good. If this character, who looks like Mahito, was the Mahito fans knew from day one, it might suggest that Akutami has unfinished business with him. While Mahito’s appearance in Tsurugi Okkotsu’s dream was brief, his presence and his words were too impactful to be dismissed.

With Mahito’s appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 7, many fans began to speculate whether Gege Akutami is bringing Mahito back for real, especially now that Yuka Okkotsu has serious health issues, which someone like Mahito could easily heal and exploit. Apparently, Yuka is suffering from a brain tumor, and this revelation has fueled theories that Mahito’s manipulation of souls could play a role in her potential recovery.

After all, in the main story of Jujutsu Kaisen, Mahito once entered into a binding vow with Kokichi Muta, also known as Mechamaru. Back then, Mahito promised Mechamaru to heal his crippled body in exchange for the latter's betrayal. While both of them received what they wanted, it didn’t take long before Mahito killed Kokichi. If history repeats itself in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, then Mahito’s involvement with Yuka's recovery is entirely possible.

This time, however, things might not unfold in the same way they did with Mechamaru, considering the presence of powerful characters like Maru and even Tsurugi Okkotsu. Of course, all of these remain theories for now, as Mahito’s appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo might end up as nothing but a cameo or a cruel reminder of how curses never truly disappear in the Jujutsu world.

In other words, fans want a living Yuji Itadori in the JJK sequel with a crucial role in the current events.

Yuji Itadori and Mahito’s relationship in Jujutsu Kaisen has always been antagonistic, defined by their clashing ideals. So, when Mahito uttered the words, “So, it’s not him after all?” In Tsurugi’s dream, fans believe that he might still be waiting for Yuji in a strange liminal place between life and death. If so, Yuji might still be alive somewhere, as Mahito has yet to encounter him again.
