Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 21 was highly anticipated by all fans of the story, especially because of the appearance of Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of the original series, in the last chapter. Fans were also incredibly excited to see the fight between Tsurugi and Maru conclude, and at the same time, to witness Dabura Karaba reach even higher levels of power in the battle against Mahoraga. Quite a lot of exciting things were touched upon in JJK Modulo Chapter 21, but more than that, it essentially went on to fix the ending of the original Jujutsu Kaisen forever.
Yuji Itadori continues to play a huge role, as he has now met with Maru, and is going to execute a very intriguing plan. More than that, one of the biggest fights, the clash between Maru and Tsurugi, seems to have wrapped up. At the same time, Dabura continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and it's going to be interesting to see what the author of the series, Gege Akutami, is planning around this character's story moving forward.
Tsurugi Gives Up The Fight Against Maru
Maru Is The Victor Of The Battle
Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter 21 picked up right from where the previous one left off. In the last chapter, fans got to see Maru and Tsurugi engage in a very high-level battle. At the end of the chapter, it appeared as if Rika took all the Cursed Energy inside of Tsurugi, which led to his Heavenly Restriction fully awakening. Evidently, that was the right assumption, because in this chapter, Tsurugi could easily have killed Maru in battle; however, at the very last moment, Tsurugi let go of his Split Soul Katana and allowed Maru to slash him across the chest, becoming the loser of this battle.
I don't know…I'm just a 17-year-old, after all! — Tsurugi Okkotsu to Maru
Maru has now delivered a deadly blow to Tsurugi, which needs to be dealt with in one way or another. That aside, Tsurugi gave up the battle because he did not want to win against Maru in a conceited manner. This fight between Maru and Tsurugi is certainly fair, but according to Tsurugi, it doesn't make sense for Maru to give up the right to have his own country simply due to a duel. Tsurugi is conflicted because he does not believe that the fate of an entire race should depend on a duel, and he also does not want Yuka to die. He is only a 17-year-old, after all, being thrust into a situation even the most experienced people in the world cannot deal with. This was a beautifully complex moment for Tsurugi and Maru, both of whom are now at the forefront of things once again in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Yuji And Maru's Plan To Erase Cursed Spirits Forever
Yuji Itadori Plans To Aid Maru In JJK’s Most Important Mission
Interestingly enough, just as Maru's battle against Tsurugi ended, Yuji Itadori showed up. This is when Maru's cursed technique took him to the realm between life and death itself, where Mahito rests. This realm was previously brought up in Jujutsu Kaisen by Kenjaku, and later, when Sukuna died. It is where Sukuna met Mahito and told him that he had changed. Now, Yuji Itadori has reached this realm as well, and he has a plan, according to Maru.
You're here because my Harmony deemed you worthy. — Maru to Yuji Itadori
Yuji was pulled into Maru's technique because the harmony part of his ability deemed him worthy. According to Maru, he plans for Yuji to be the witness of the union between humans and the Simurians. Using his technique, Maru can somehow get rid of cursed spirits altogether, but this would require him to make use of Idle Transfiguration, which they can acquire from Mahito. This might be the entire reason why Mahito was brought back into the story in the first place. For those who remember, getting rid of cursed spirits was one of the main plot points of Jujutsu Kaisen that the story set up. Unfortunately, the original story failed to give a proper conclusion to this storyline. The only ways that were discussed were:
- For every non-sorcerer to be killed
- For everyone to either be taught how to optimize their cursed energy or for cursed energy to simply not exist anymore
It appears that Maru is going to utilize his technique in a similar way that Yuta Okkotsu stored a tremendous amount of cursed energy in his ring, utilizing the power of his cursed technique. Maru can somehow get rid of cursed spirits altogether, and that is what the next stage of the story is setting up.
Dabura Unlocks His Domain Expansion
Dabura's Domain Is The Intersection Of Light And Dark
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter 21 also showcased Dabura's incredible Domain Expansion. Fans were not truly expecting Dabura to unlock his domain so quickly, but it just so happens that he has advanced at a rapid pace.
Can Earth's Jujutsu Sorcery achieve this power as well? — Dabura Karaba
In the previous chapter, Dabura unlocked the Cursed Technique Reversal of his Light, and created Darkness. Now, by seeing the spaceship that he came to Earth in, Dabura has figured out the utilization of barrier techniques and imbued his own technique inside the barrier to create a Domain Expansion. His Domain Expansion is officially known as "Reverse Crossing", but its powers remain unknown at this point in time. It seems that Mahoraga continues to adapt to his cursed technique or even his existence without even being hit by it, which is a new power even for someone like Mahoraga.
Now, Dabura is likely going to hit the Divine General with his sure-hit attack, which is going to take him out in a single blow and end this battle for good. It is around this time in the story that Yuji Itadori and Maru need to make their move, and by doing so, they can truly erase Cursed Spirits forever. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Dabura won't be seeking out another fight. After all, it is for the first time that Dabura has realized that he enjoys fighting way too much, and he could still be set up as the next villain in the story. This would mean that Yuji Itadori would still need to fight and defeat him in battle.
In either case, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is only going to heat up from here onwards, but there are not too many chapters left now. Initially, Gege planned for this to be a three-volume release, which means that the story has about four or five chapters left, based on the initial assessment. However, it is also possible that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo continues beyond that and gets either an extra volume, or at least a couple more chapters. Fans want this serialization to continue for as long as possible, because this story has proven to be absolutely stunning from start to finish, and has shown Gege's talent as a writer to the absolute fullest.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is available to read on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps, via Viz Media.
