Megumi Fushiguro is undoubtedly one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s most controversial characters. Despite being the series’ deuteragonist (as in, its second most important character), he didn’t have the opportunity to showcase his immense power very often, and, as a result, his popularity slowly began waning among the fanbase.
Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Weakest Cursed Techniques In The Culling Game, Ranked
Although the Culling Game had some of the strongest characters in the series, there were some abysmal Cursed Techniques as well.
Nevertheless, Fushiguro is still a strong and skilled sorcerer who has effortlessly mastered many techniques and abilities, which becomes especially evident when taking a look at his performance in some of the series’ earlier arcs. Needless to say, Fushiguro proved how overpowered he truly is multiple times throughout the story of Jujutsu Kaisen, but the following seven moments are the most notorious ones in the entire series.
The Divine Dogs’ Debut
Proved What Skilled Sorcerers Are Capable Of
- Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Manga)
It’s easy to forget that Megumi Fushiguro was technically the first sorcerer to ever use a cursed technique in Jujutsu Kaisen (not counting Jujutsu Kaisen 0, of course). When he arrived at Itadori’s high school to save him and his classmates from all the cursed spirits that were attracted by Sukuna’s finger, he quickly showcased his signature ability: the Ten Shadows Technique.
Fushiguro’s summoned two dog-like shikigami called Divine Dogs, and the trio began mowing down hordes of cursed spirits who were trying to attack them. In just the first episode of the series, Fushiguro efficiently proved how strong and versatile sorcerers could be and showed how much newcomers like Itadori would have to train to reach his level.
Divine Dog: Totality
The Evolution Of One Of His Previously Nerfed Techniques
- Chapter 47 (Manga) Episode 19 (Manga)
At one point in the story, Fushiguro’s white dog shikigami was suddenly killed by a powerful cursed spirit, making it impossible for him to summon it ever again. However, due to how the Ten Shadows Technique works, all the power of the deceased white dog was absorbed by his black-colored companion and helped it evolve into a more powerful version of itself called Divine Dog: Totality.
Fushiguro efficiently used this brand-new shikigami in his clash against Hanami (one of the most powerful cursed spirits in existence) and was able to visibly injure it with its breakneck speed, sharp claws, and immense physical strength. Needless to say, Fushiguro kept using this new Divine Dog in many subsequent fights against other powerful opponents, which cemented how potent it is.
Surviving Ryomen Sukuna
He Faced The Main Villain Very Early On In The Series
- Chapter 9 (Manga) Episode 5 (Manga)
Megumi Fushiguro always had a very complicated relationship with the main antagonist of the series, Ryomen Sukuna, as the so-called King of Curses set his eyes on him very early in the story. As a result, after Sukuna took control of Itadori’s body during a mission, he didn’t hesitate to confront Fushiguro to test his abilities.
6 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters That Have Already Died In JJK Modulo
JJK Modulo has already accumulated casualties. Many characters from the original Jujutsu Kaisen story have already died.
Fushiguro was always quite strong, but he was nowhere near the level of Sukuna at that point, and yet, he was forced to face him after fighting some cursed spirits. Despite these unfortunate circumstances, he actually fended for himself surprisingly well, using his shikigami to create some distance between him and the King of Curses and quickly avoiding his destructive attacks in the process. While Fushiguro was unable to save Itadori’s life during this battle, the fact that he was able to go all-out against Sukuna and live to tell the tale is incredibly impressive.
Becoming Sukuna’s New Vessel
His Immense Power Indirectly Ruined His Life
- Chapter 219 (Manga)
Unfortunately, Megumi Fushiguro didn’t have much of an involvement in the final story arcs of Jujutsu Kaisen because his body was possessed by Ryomen Sukuna, and he basically became his second vessel. However, this is actually quite an impressive achievement and is undeniable proof of how inherently strong Fushiguro always was.
Sukuna spent his entire life (literally hundreds of years) working towards creating the perfect vessel for his reincarnation, which led to the birth of Yuji Itadori, and yet, the moment he laid his eyes on Fushiguro, he instantly realized he would be much more powerful if he used his body and his techniques instead. Sukuna needed his shikigami to confront the great Satoru Gojo and was able to bring their full potential, but he would never have been able to do so if Fushiguro wasn’t already powerful from the get-go.
Chimera Shadow Garden
His Domain Expansion Was Incredibly Powerful, Despite Being Incomplete
- Chapter 58 (Manga) Episode 23 (Manga)
Domain Expansions are a cursed sorcerer’s ultimate technique, the undeniable proof that they have reached the peak of their power. Megumi Fushiguro was able to conjure his own Domain Expansion called Chimera Shadow Garden, but it had a caveat: it was incomplete. Nevertheless, it was still incredibly useful, and he efficiently wielded it against many powerful foes.
Chimera Shadow Garden floods an area with a sea of dark shadows that allows its user to summon multiple shikigami at the same time, basically overwhelming them with an army of strong beasts (and even clones of himself). Fushiguro used his incomplete Domain Expansion to defeat a Finger Bearer and Reggie Star and even to infiltrate Dagon’s own Domain Expansion. If he was able to complete it, Chimera Shadow Garden would have definitely become one of the strongest techniques in the entire series.
Defeating Reggie Star
He Fought One-On-One Against One Of The Culling Game’s Most Powerful Sorcerers
- Chapter 172 (Manga)
Like many other Jujutsu Kaisen characters, Megumi Fushiguro unfortunately lost some relevance towards the final stretches of the manga, especially after he was possessed by Sukuna. However, he did star in one excellent solo fight before that, during the Culling Game Arc, when he confronted the one and only Reggie Star, a reincarnated sorcerer from the past.
Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Strongest Physical Fighters In The Series, Ranked
In a series filled with broken and insane techniques, these stand out as the strongest physical fighters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
This battle perfectly conveys how much stronger, faster, smarter, and more skilled Fushiguro had gotten throughout the course of the series, as he used his shikigami and his Domain Expansion in clever ways that allowed him to overpower and outsmart his opponent. This must be his most entertaining and exciting solo fight in the entire series, and it’s a real shame that he didn’t really get to fight anybody else by himself until the end of the story.
Summoning Mahoraga For The First Time
The Shibuya Incident Forced Him To Reveal His Ultimate Shikigami
- Chapter 117 (Manga) Episode 41 (Manga)
Everybody knows that Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is the most powerful shikigami in Fushiguro’s arsenal and proof of how overpowered his Ten Shadows Technique truly is. After confronting multiple strong opponents during the Shibuya Incident Arc, Fushiguro was so gravely injured that he was forced to summon Mahoraga, explicitly claiming that it’s an uncontrollable shikigami and that someone else would have to exorcize it.
Mahoraga is not only extremely strong, durable, and agile, but it also boasts a special ability that allows it to adapt to any phenomena, which basically makes it almost unbeatable. Ryomen Sukuna was able to confront and exorcize Mahoraga in an astonishing (but terrifying) fight that destroyed most of the Shibuya ward, not to mention that this shikigami’s existence is the main reason the King of Curses chose Fushiguro as his next vessel, and he eventually ended up summoning it to confront Satoru Gojo during their climactic final battle.
