Jujutsu Kaisen could very well be called the shōnen anime for the scientifically curious, since Gege Akutami incorporates advanced physics and intricate mathematics into almost every cursed technique. Whether it is Gojo’s Limitless technique, which can reanimate the soul, or a Domain Expansion based on gambling, the series requires viewers to pay attention to logic, not just action.

That is where Kirara Hoshi comes in. While they might initially come across as just a stylish support side character, Kirara possesses one of the most effective defensive Cursed Techniques in the entire series. They transform the surrounding environment into a literal star map and thus compel their opponents to play a game of orbital momentum where a single mistake will completely waste all momentum. Understanding Kirara isn't just about power levels; it's about understanding the stars themselves.

Who Is Kirara Hoshi?

The Loyal Partner To Kinji Hakari And A Master Of Support

kirara-hakari-jjk-s3

Kirara Hoshi was a third-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High who was suspended along with Kinji Hakari following an argument with the conservative leaders of the school. Kirara’s rebellious behavior is the ideal match for the Hakari fever, and Kirara becomes the tactical anchor and reliable partner in their covert fight club. Their eye-catching looks, including accessories of the star theme and a goth-punk atmosphere, mask a very sharp-eyed sorcerer, who acknowledges the connection they have with those who accept the unconventional side of jujutsu society.

Although Kirara is suspended, their loyalty characterizes them, particularly to Hakari and their vision of the future of jujutsu. Their existence ensures that any battle of the two is on their terms, where the use of intellect keeps the enemies away as Hakari gathers momentum. In Kirara's case, jujutsu is not a curse but rather a means of defending those they love by perfect defense.

The Love Rendezvous Explained

The Physics Of Affection: Attraction And Repulsion

Kirara cursed technique

Love Rendezvous, the Cursed Technique of Kirara, is exclusively based on the Crux (Southern Cross) constellation. The method operates by Kirara marking cursed energy on targets, whether it be people, objects, or even cursed spirits, and giving them a star name, derived from one of the five stars of Crux: Gacrux, Mimosa, Ginan, Imai, and Acrux. When a target is named after a star, it is subjected to the star's relative location and distance, becoming an object enslaved by the battlefield, which is now a mapped-out galaxy.

The core mechanic of the technique is attraction and repulsion, depending on the sequence of stars. The target with the given star has to come in a particular order to arrive at the target. Should a sorcerer attempt to approach Kirara (in most cases marked Gacrux, the furthest star in the constellation) without going through the intermediate stars, he or she will be thrown back or literally stuck in orbit. Objects or persons with a similar star name are forcefully attracted, causing Kirara to stick any person or object to another, thus not letting them get closer to what they want.

Breaking The Physical Boundaries Of Traditional Combat

What makes Love Rendezvous so unique is that it is almost entirely non-violent yet incredibly powerful as a defensive tool. It does not depend on brute force but rather the manipulation of space between objects, making it almost impossible for an average melee sorcerer to hit Kirara. The method allows the inanimate objects to be used, which means that Kirara can convert a whole hallway or building into a minefield of magnetic forces.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Kinji Hakari's Cursed Technique, Explained

Why need skill, when you have luck? Kinji Hakari’s technique is a breathtaking evolution that defies the ancient traditions of the jujutsu world.

The main counter to Kirara's technique is definitely a smart opponent with deductive reasoning, as is seen when Megumi Fushiguro encounters Kirara. Because the method is based on the constant relative positions of the Southern Cross, a competitor who learns the names of the stars and knows astronomy can reverse-calculate the map and use it to find his way through the areas of attraction and repulsion. Also, the technique has a range limitation and a finite number of markers; an opponent who can control objects not within the five-star system or can utilize an expansive Domain Expansion can overcome the orbital limits and cause Kirara to engage in a direct battle.
