Jujutsu Kaisen fans thoroughly enjoyed the run of their beloved story over the years, all the way until late 2024, when the author officially put an end to the manga. Jujutsu Kaisen ended with the conclusion of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. While the ending itself was sad, it was also quite disappointing for many fans, especially because some of their beloved characters never made it out alive.

Of course, the biggest and most important of them all is Gojo Satoru, the strongest modern sorcerer. Fans always wanted Gojo to live a fulfilling life, but unfortunately, Gege decided to kill him off. After his death at Sukuna’s hands, fans thought Gojo would officially be revived in one way or another. Unfortunately, Gege never had any plans to revive him, and the author goes on to say that his plan was to kill Gojo right from the beginning.

Gege Never Planned To Revive Gojo Satoru

The Plan Was To Kill Gojo From The Beginning

  • Gojo's Death Was Important For The Story
  • Gojo Was Too Powerful

Gege Akutami never truly wanted to have Gojo live until the very end. Even though Gojo was the strongest, he couldn't have lived to the very end. In fact, it is largely because he was the strongest that Gege didn't want him around anymore. Gojo, being as strong as he was, hindered the development of the young generation, and his popularity was also detrimental to the main cast, sad as that is.

Don't get the wrong idea, you're the challenger here! — Gojo Satoru

But, that aside, Gege’s plans for Gojo Satoru were quite clear right from the beginning of the story. Gege always wanted Gojo Satoru to be killed off. He had decided this right at the beginning of the story. This also means that Gege never had any plans to revive Gojo in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc after his defeat.

Gege only wanted Gojo to stay around until a certain point and push the next generation further forward. His death paved the way for Yuji to grow even further and it allowed for Sukuna to finally be defeated. Gojo was never going to be revived, because that would've meant throwing all the development for Yuji and the others, like Yuta, away.

Either 3 out of 4 main characters survive, or only 1 does. — Gege Akutami

Long ago, Gege stated that he had two outcomes for the end of the series. Either 3 characters of the main four survive, or only 1 does. Fans know now that he went with Plan A, where Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara survived, but even in Plan B, Gojo's survival was impossible.

Gojo's death was unfortunate for the fans, and to many, it was disappointing as well. But, it had a profound effect on many characters in the story, specifically Yuji and Yuta. Both of these characters rose in the most difficult situation and decided to take charge in the battle against Sukuna. Gojo's death led to the birth of two absolute stars of the Jujutsu world, and it eventually paved the way for Sukuna's defeat.

After the fall of Sukuna, the Jujutsu world was saved, and Yuji and Yuta became the two dominant pillars of the sorcerer society. Gojo was never going to come back, but he handed his dreams and goals to Yuta and Yuji, who are currently seeing to it that the world he envisioned is brought to life.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the biggest shonen series in the world. The manga, which ended in late 2024, can be read online for free. It is available to access on Manga Plus, where this series used to be made available weekly.
