How exactly are Gojo and Yuta related, and what role does their ancestor, Sugawara, play in Jujutsu Kaisen’s story?

As fans know, the battle ended in favor of the strongest sorcerer in history, Ryomen Sukuna. However, fans still debate to this day who the stronger of the two is. Now, Gege has added more fuel to the fire by explaining what exactly went down in the battle, and thus confirming who the stronger of the two was.

Gojo Vs Sukuna's Result: How Sukuna Beat Gojo

  • Sukuna And Gojo Were Level
  • Gojo Was Split In Half By Sukuna

Gojo and Sukuna's battle was inevitable right from the very beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans knew that this fight would eventually happen, no matter what. At the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo vs Sukuna was set up by the author simply by confirming the fact that Gojo Satoru and Sukuna were both the strongest of their eras and on the opposing ends. Sukuna wanting to kill Gojo only furthered the case for this battle to eventually happen, and fans weren't surprised at all when Gojo vs Sukuna finally kicked off after the events of the Culling Game arc.

Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live. — Sukuna after Gojo's Death

The battle began in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, and it is safe to say that it was, by far, the best fight in the entire series, and one that kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Gojo and Sukuna were fairly even, and while one had the upper hand at some points, the other took control at others. In the end, a case could've been made for either to be the strongest, but at the end of the day, there was only one winner in the fight. Sukuna won the battle after he killed Gojo, thanks to Mahoraga allowing him to level up his arsenal in incredible ways. By using the World Splitting Dismantle, Sukuna was able to bypass Gojo's Limitless and thus win the battle. For many fans, this was a clear confirmation of the fact that Sukuna was stronger. But, there were many factors that needed to be taken into consideration here as well.

Gege Confirms Gojo's Defeat Was Due To Lowering His Guard

Normal Gojo Would've Sensed The Attack Coming

Recently, Gege Akutami answered some very interesting questions about the battle between Gojo and Sukuna, and it certainly helps to bring to light some important facts from this exciting fight. The most important of them all that Gege himself finally revealed concerns the winner of the fight between Gojo and Sukuna. Everyone knows Sukuna won the battle, but now, Gege has confirmed that his victory wasn't down to him being stronger at all. In fact, as fans were clearly seeing, Gojo was the dominant one in the battle at that point. Sukuna only landed his killing blow because Gojo let his guard down, and that was his biggest undoing. Here's what Gege had to say about Gojo vs Sukuna:

After defeating Mahoraga, Gojo thought that Sukuna had no way to bypass his infinity anymore. I think that the usual Gojo would've sensed that something was amiss & could've avoided a fatal wound. — Gege Akutami

As confirmed by Gege himself, the only reason Sukuna won the battle was because Gojo let his guard down. This was a very situational outcome and doesn't, in any way, indicate that Sukuna is stronger. At the same time, Gege himself states that the usual Gojo would've dodged it or avoided a fatal wound, once again, confirming that if he had kept his concentration up, he would've survived the hit. Most importantly, if Sukuna's World Splitting Dismantle had failed, then Gojo would've absolutely destroyed him since his RCT was back following his Black Flash Hits and that meant he could access his CT and even his domain once again. By all means, had Gojo avoided the slash, it was game over for Sukuna.

Sukuna Couldn't Have Beaten Gojo Without Mahoraga

Sukuna Would've Lost Badly Without Mahoraga

While it is true that Gojo would've won a hard-fought battle if he had concentrated more, what's even clearer is the fact that if Sukuna didn't have Mahoraga, he wouldn't have been able to kill Gojo by any means. Gojo was fighting with a handicap. He also had the far superior Cursed Technique of the two, and the better domain. Acquiring the body of Megumi Fushiguro was very important to Sukuna, and without it, he would've likely lost. Overall, Gojo was truly the stronger of the two and would've come out victorious had he not let his guard down.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
