This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
Gege Akutami left a lot of unanswered questions at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, leaving fans scratching their heads and debating what really happened to some of the characters with little to no update about their status. Only Gege can reveal if they’re alive somewhere or if they died a long while ago. Among them, Jin Itadori remains one of the big mysteries despite how crucial he is to Yuji Itadori’s existence.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are fully aware that Jin Itadori is Yuji’s father and Wasuke’s son, but his past, motivations, and true role in the story aren’t exactly clear. However, based on his actions alone, it’s safe to assume that Jin Itadori is more sinister than Kenjaku, not because of power or body count, but because of choice. While Kenjaku is a monster by nature, Jin Itadori was human, fully aware, and still chose to look away.
Jin Itadori Accepted Kenjaku as Kaori’s Replacement
Jin Itadori Used His Dead Wife’s Body to Have a Son
As much as fans would love to know more details about the Itadori family, Jujutsu Kaisen was not generous enough to give them exactly what they needed to learn. In fact, there’s little to no information about the Itadori family, except for a handful of fragmented details and unsettling clues scattered throughout the story. In short, almost everything about Yuji’s family remains a mystery.
Still, fans know that Jin Itadori is Yuji’s biological father. JJK Chapter 257 also revealed that his soul was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s younger brother, whom the latter absorbed and devoured before birth. In addition, Jin was also married to Kaori Itadori, who had an incredible cursed technique called the Antigravity System that invited Kenjaku’s further involvement in the Itadori family.
For the most part, Jin and Kaori struggled to conceive a child. It was only after Kenjaku took control of Kaori’s dead body that she became pregnant. Jin was fully aware that Kaori was no longer truly his wife during her pregnancy, but it seemed to trouble him not in the slightest. He lived with his wife’s corpse, slept beside it, and accepted the lie only because it served his desire to have a child. Until the end, he remained indifferent, making Yuji a result of willful compliance instead of a baby conceived through mutual love. While Kenjaku used Kaori, Jin Itadori allowed it.
Jin Itadori Did Not Raise Yuji
Yuji Barely Remembers Jin Itadori
Despite Jin Itadori’s extreme desire to have a child, he was never truly present in Yuji’s life. He played no role in raising his own son, as Wasuke stepped in to assume full responsibility for Yuji’s upbringing. Yuji even told Junpei Yoshino in JJK Chapter 24 that he barely remembers his father. For some reason, Jin vanished from Yuji’s life entirely, leaving a void that Wasuke filled with love and care.
To be fair, Jin Itadori’s status in JJK remains unknown. After Yuji was born, Gege Akutami never revealed further information about him, let alone his endeavors. While some fans are claiming that Jin Itadori is still alive somewhere, there’s no concrete proof of his life. There’s no proof of his death either, as all records of him vanish after Yuji’s early years. In addition, Yuji and Wasuke never paid a visit to a cemetery to offer flowers to his grave.
I never met her (Kaori). I barely remember my dad (Jin) either.—Yuji to Junpei
Interestingly, the same thing is happening to Iori Okkotsu in JJK Modulo. Just like Jin Itadori, Iori has vanished, leaving no trace behind. His last recorded conversation was with Yuji, after which all contact and sightings abruptly ceased. According to Tsurugi, Iori disappeared after Yuka’s birth, drawing a parallel to Jin Itadori’s complete absence from Yuji’s life.
Jin Itadori’s Status Remains Unknown
Is Jin Itadori Alive or Dead?
As mentioned, Jin Itadori’s status in JJK remains unknown, as Gege Akutami never addressed any details about his fate until the end. This led to a lot of speculation about his death at the hands of Kenjaku, who fans believed had killed Jin after he served his purpose at Yuji’s birth. Knowing Kenjaku’s true nature, he could easily dispose of Jin without hesitation.
However, some still believe that Jin Itadori vanished from Yuji’s life as a form of atonement for abusing Kaori’s corpse. Perhaps he chose to step away completely, carrying the weight of his guilt in isolation. Whether he’s alive or dead, his sin of choice and knowledge cannot be erased.
