Gege Akutami has become one of the biggest names in the manga industry. The prolific author is the creator of an iconic shonen series, known as Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisen has definitely taken the world by storm, being one of the most successful manga and anime of all time, rivaling big hits like Demon Slayer, and My Hero Academia. Unfortunately, Gege Akutami concluded his story in a seemingly rushed manner in 2024.
Gege returned in 2025 with a short sequel series, titled Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, which followed the events decades after the conclusion of his original story. Modulo was always supposed to be a short serialization, and it is now fast approaching. However, fans would love a new full-fledged work by Gage Akutami. Interestingly enough, his new message in Weekly Shonen Jump might be hinting at a new Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, or perhaps even a brand-new manga story.
Gege Akutami Confirms He Wants To Continue To Create More Manga
A few days ago, a major Weekly Shonen Jump manga ended, and that was The Elusive Samurai, by Yusei Matsui. The Elusive Samurai ended with 238 chapters, and fans were deeply saddened to part ways with it. For those who don't know, Yusei Matsui was also the creator of another hit series, known as Assassination Classroom. Given his pedigree, many mangaka were quick to leave messages for him, thanking him for his work. Among them was Jujutsu Kaisen's Gege Akutami.
“I also want to continue facing manga consistently, just like Matsui-sensei!” — Gege Akutami
Gege Akutami stated that, just like Yusei Matsui, he wants to continue drawing manga. This can only mean that Gege definitely has plans to continue working on manga, one way or another.
Gege Akutami Could Be Hinting At New JJK Sequel After Modulo
Gege Akutami's message about wanting to face more manga has brought up many possibilities for the future of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Jujutsu Kaisen is Gege Akutami's first manga and it was, of course, a major success. At the moment, the series has over 150 million copies in circulation, which makes it one of the best-selling manga in the whole world. With that, Gege has become quite a big name in the manga industry, and Weekly Shonen Jump would love to have him stay around as long as possible, especially with his original work.
Jujutsu Kaisen is already an established franchise, and given the potential the world still has and the message that Gege delivered, it could well be a hint at a continuation of the Jujutsu Kaisen story. Jujutsu Kaisen could be expanded upon through another sequel, or possibly even a prequel.
It could also be that the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga is simply extended, given that this series could still deliver a ton of exciting content to the fans. Gege could also choose to cover the events that unfolded between the original JJK series and Modulo, as there is a 68-year timeskip. This would be the perfect opportunity for Gege Akutami to expand on his original cast of characters. When it comes to a prequel instead, there are many interesting Jujutsu eras that could be showcased that far predate what fans saw in JJK, such as the Heian Era. Both fans and Shonen Jump would definitely love anything new that Gege comes up with for JJK, especially seeing the current hype surrounding Modulo.
Gege Akutami Could Come Up With A Brand New Series
While Jujutsu Kaisen getting a new story is definitely a possibility, Gege might have different plans this time around. As is the case with many managaka, Gege could also pursue a fresh start. Jujutsu Kaisen has been his biggest work, Gege is a great mangaka who could showcase his talent by crafting a brand new story.
-
Many mangaka have found great success with their second stories, such as creators like Akira Toriyama with Dragon Ball, or Togashi with HxH. Even Yusei Matsui, whom Gege made the comment about earlier this week, found great success in his second manga.

It’s hard to imagine a new Gege Akutami story surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen, but it’s not impossible. For now, it's unclear what kind of story Gege would pursue if he were to create a new manga, but it's safe to say that fans of JJK would, at the very least, want to check it out.
Either way, whatever new manga project Gege comes up with could very well be illustrated by someone else, like Yuji Iwasaki, especially given how much Gege's health suffered in the original JJK run towards the end. Gege and Shonen Jump will eventually make an announcement on his next work, so fans should stay tuned.
