This article contains spoilers from the JJK series.
Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen has an absolutely incredible power system that centers around cursed energy and cursed techniques. Fans know that the sorcerers of the JJK world rely extensively on cursed techniques. Not all cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen are built equally, however. While some techniques are absolutely incredible, others are subpar. It also depends on how good the user truly is and how well they can bring out the true power of their cursed technique.
After 7 Years, Gege Akutami Confirms The Sorcerer Who Stole Gojo's Throne
Gojo's era is over, and this sorcerer has stolen his throne as the strongest sorcerer of Japan in JJK.
In any case, two cursed techniques in JJK stand above all, and they are Gojo Satoru's Limitless Cursed Technique and Ryomen Sukuna's Shrine. While both of these cursed techniques are immensely powerful, in the final arc of JJK, it was Sukuna's Shrine that came out on top. Despite that, the stronger cursed technique of the two is, undoubtedly, Limitless, and this has been explicitly confirmed by the author in the story.
Gojo Satoru's Limitless Is The Strongest Cursed Technique In Jujutsu Kaisen
The Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen gave the fans a proper look at the incredible battle between Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna. While these two sorcerers were equally matched, in the end only one prevailed on top and that was Sukuna. This might lead fans to believe that Sukuna's Shrine is actually the superior technique, but that truly is not the case.
At present, Yuji Itadori has two cursed techniques. Integration of Death Paintings 4 to 9 engraved Blood Manipulation on him. And the awakened state gained from the Black Flash has drawn out Malevolent Shrine, which was engraved on him as Ryomen Sukuna's fully fleshed curse. — Narrator on Yuji Itadori
It goes without saying that both Sukuna and Gojo have very powerful techniques, and at first glance, it might appear to the fans that Sukuna has the stronger technique of the two. After all, his Shrine has the power to cut and dice almost anything, and Malevolent Shrine cannot be survived by anyone other than Gojo.
It might appear as if Sukuna's technique is superior to that of Gojo, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Gojo's Limitless is incredibly overpowered. In fact, Gojo's Limitless technique gives him the power to attract and repel, which even Sukuna had a very hard time countering. With the power of the Limitless Cursed Technique combined with the Six Eyes, Gojo gains an understanding of cursed energy at an intrinsic level that far surpasses Sukuna. Gojo can attract and repel, but more than that, he can combine the two to create an imaginary mass that deletes everything out of existence.
Gojo's Limitless Surpasses Sukuna And Yuji's Shrine
When basic usages of Cursed Techniques are compared, Limitless and Shrine don't have too much difference between them. However, it is the Domain Expansion that sets them apart. Sukuna's Shrine is most certainly incredibly powerful, but Gojo was able to survive this attack multiple times throughout their fight in Shinjuku. In fact, by using the Full throttle of his RCT, Gojo was able to take on Shrine head-on and survive. He even stopped healing altogether in order to refill his burnt-out cursed technique, while making do with simple domains in the meantime.
Even when performing curse gestures, his hands remain unfettered, and even when chanting his curse, his heart and lungs remain unburdened. Sukuna's extra arms and hands provide an immense advantage over other sorcerers. His physical form may be greatly deformed, but that doesn't impede him in any way. — Narrator on Ryomen Sukuna
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Reveals Who Is Stronger Between Gojo And Sukuna
Who was stronger between Gojo and Sukuna has been a long debated question in the JJK fandom. Gege teases the answer to this.
The same cannot be done to Gojo's Limitless technique. Once Gojo uses Unlimited Void, which is his overpowered Domain Expansion, beating him becomes almost impossible. If Gojo's technique hits, it's game over for most characters in JJK, and that also includes Sukuna. Fans clearly saw how much damage Sukuna took just from 10 seconds of Unlimited Void. Had the technique landed completely, Sukuna would most likely have died right there.
On top of that, if another Unlimited Void had hit Sukuna, he would most certainly have died and there is no way he would have survived. On the flip side, Gojo could easily have taken another Shrine, or maybe a couple more as long as he had reverse cursed technique to counter.
Gojo Is The Strongest Sorcerer In Jujutsu Kaisen
The debate of who the stronger sorcerer of the two between Sukuna and Gojo is will always exist. The fact is that when Gojo fought against Sukuna, Gege himself confirmed that he only lost because he let his guard down in the end after the remote Hollow Purple, thinking that he had won. Gojo has a habit of letting his guard down. However, Gege himself confirmed the normal Gojo would not have done that, which means he only lost due to plot convenience.
That said, Gojo did admit that Sukuna was stronger than him in that form. But, this was because of the existence of Ten Shadows. If Sukuna did not have Mahoraga, he would most certainly have lost the battle since he would've had no way to bypass Infinity as even Malevolent Shrine didn't work.
Gojo himself said that he's not sure if he would have easily won if there were no Mahoraga and this essentially confirms that Sukuna, in Megumi's body, was stronger than his original self without the 10 Shadows, specifically in the case of Gojo Satoru.
In essence, these two sorcerers are equally matched, but when it comes to cursed techniques, Gojo and his Limitless are far superior, and this is something Gege himself stated during their fight.
