The Jujutsu Kaisen world is filled with powerful and capable sorcerers. As was established early on in the series, Sorcerers are ranked in Jujutsu Kaisen based on their power levels. The weakest level is Grade 4, and after that, there are Grades 3 to 1, with Semi Grades in between. The strongest normal Sorcerers typically land in Grade 1. However, there is one grade reserved for the best of the best in JJK, and its Special Grade. Special Grades are anomalies in the JJK world whose powers are too great to even categorize.
In JJK, there are just four official Special Grades, and they're Gojo, Yuta, Yuki, and Geto. That said, however, there are quite a few other characters that could fall in this category as well. The newest of the bunch is Tsurugi, but there's a catch. With Rika taking over his body, Tsurugi is quite easily a Special Grade, since Rika herself is a Special Grade curse. Without her, Tsurugi would peak at Grade 1, unless his Heavenly Restriction is fully realized.

Special Grade curses are exceptionally powerful, and they can make short work of the best sorcerers.
Gojo, Yuta, Yuki, and Geto Are Official Special Grades
- Sukuna, Kenjaku, Yuji, Yuka, And Some Others Can Be Unofficial Special Grades
The strongest of the Jujutsu Kaisen world aren’t the Grade 1 sorcerers. While Grade 1 is reserved for strong sorcerers, there is another class that ranks even higher, which only a handful of Sorcerers can break into. The likes of Nanami and Mei Mei are Grade 1, but the true strongest of JJK are Special Grades.
Special Grades are where true power shows in Jujutsu Kaisen. Officially, fans only know of four Special Grades, and Gojo Satoru is the strongest of them all. Gojo is known to be a beast that almost no one can rival. With his Six Eyes and Limitless, he almost beat Sukuna.
Yuta Okkotsu is another Special Grade. While not as strong as Gojo, he’s overpowered. His cursed technique, Copy, is incredibly versatile. His cursed energy reserve is also one of the biggest, thanks to Rika.
Yuki Tsukumo is another official Special Grade. Her cursed technique allows her to control mass, and her ultimate ability could allow her to even destroy the world.
The final official Special Grade was Geto Suguru. His Cursed Spirit Manipulation is broken, and lets him absorb and control cursed spirits, which is incredibly overpowered, to begin with.
While these four are the only official Special Grades, there are quite a few other characters that could fall under this odd category as well. Sukuna is one such character as he was the strongest sorcerer. As seen in Shinjuku, he was even able to kill Gojo Satoru. Sukuna was, by far, the hardest villain to take down.
Besides Sukuna, the likes of Yuji Itadori and Kenjaku are also Special Grades. New JJK characters could also fall under this category. Dabura is a Sukuna-level threat, and definitely a Special Grade.
Maru and Cross could also be around that level, depending on how far they can take their techniques. If Yuka Okkotsu goes on to fulfill her potential, she has enough talent to be a Special Grade. Yuka has superior cursed energy reserves, just like Yuta, and the Ten Shadow Technique. Aside from her, Gege Akutami has recently revealed a new character from Modulo that could also fall into this category, and that's Tsurugi Okkotsu.
Tsurugi Could Be Considered Special Grade with the Powers of Rika
- Without Rika, Tsurugi Needs More Power
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo introduces a new cast of characters, and among them, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu stand out. They’re siblings, but they’re very different when it comes to battle abilities. Yuka was born with huge reserves of cursed energy, while Tsurugi was born with traces of this power. They also mirror their grandparents, Yuta and Maki.
So far, Yuka seems to be the stronger sibling. She was sent to fight Dabura, even though she’s dying from a terminal tumor in her brain. Yuka is far more broken than Tsurugi, but Gege has balanced out the powers of these two by giving the powers of Rika to Tsurugi, at least for now.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Officially Gives Yuji His Biggest Power Up
Yuji has returned and is stronger than ever before with his newest power-up in JJK Modulo.
In his battle against Maru, Rika awakened to help Tsurugi. Since the latter was being overwhelmed in battle, Rika lent him a hand and it was clear to see that he became a monster above the level of a Grade 1 Sorcerer. With this new power, Tsurugi was able to swiftly injure Maru and even deal easily with his technique, Chaos and Order. With Rika in his possession, it could definitely be said that Tsurugi is worthy of being considered a Special Grade.
Tsurugi Could Become Special Grade on His Own If He Loses His Cursed Energy
Right now, Tsurugi is fighting with the abilities that Rika offered to him, making him akin to a Special Grade. However, without her, he isn’t all that powerful. At best, without Rika, he would be a Grade 1 Sorcerer as he is. Normally, Tsurugi would just have been able to hold on to Rika. However, as was established in the story quite early, she is meant for Yuka Okkotsu, as that's who Yuta passed on the ring to. It’s only a matter of time until Tsurugi returns Rika to Yuka.
Without Rika, Tsurugi will lose his biggest power-up. The only way he could truly become a Special Grade on his own is by awakening to his true Heavenly Restriction and parting ways with the little cursed energy left within him.
That said, whether that can happen is unclear. While not specified, it seems that Toji was an anomaly born with no cursed energy at all. Meanwhile, Tsurugi's grandmother, Maki, was a twin. Twins are special in JJK, and through her twin sister's dying and taking away Maki's remaining cursed energy, she was able to fully realize her Heavenly Restriction.
Tsurugi’s case is different as he was neither born without cursed energy, nor is he a twin. Gege might reveal a new way for him to achieve a full Heavenly Restriction, but how that'll happen remains to be seen. It is also possible that Tsurugi will just stay at his current power level at the end of Modulo, but that's unlikely.
In either case, come the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, fans will definitely see him reach a high level of overall power. Tsurugi has to be stronger than he was with Rika when the fight against Maru is over, which means that his Heavenly Restriction must make him akin to a Special Grade sorcerer.
