This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans were absolutely delighted to hear that Gege Akutami was making a comeback with a brand-new manga set in the same world, with new characters. When Jujutsu Kaisenβs sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, was announced, fans couldn't wait to see their favorite characters once again. Shortly after, it was revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was set around 68 years into the future, meaning that the world had drastically changed. With such a massive timeskip came major character deaths.
Right at the beginning, it was confirmed that Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin were officially dead. This made the fans wonder what happened to the other main characters. While question marks remained over the fate of Yuki Itadori, Megumi Fushiguroβs fate is almost certainly sealed already. It might come as a surprise to the fans, but Megumi Fushiguro, who Gege originally chose as the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen, is most likely dead, given that there is no mention of him and the time that has passed.
Megumi Fushiguro Is Most Likely Dead In Jujutsu Kaisen
- Most JJK characters should be dead by now
- There is no mention of Megumi in JJK Modulo
68 years after Shinjuku Showdown, most of the main cast of Jujutsu Kaisen are either dead or extremely old. The fact is that most of them would've been over 80, and pushing closer to 90, which means that the chances of them being alive are very low. Megumi Fushiguro is no different. Megumi should be in his 80s right now, which makes the chances of him dying very high.
Start by saving me, Itadori Yuji. β Megumi to Yuji, Culling Game
If someone with a superior body, like Maki Zenin, died of old age, then Megumi Fushiguro has absolutely no chance of being alive. The fact that Yuji Itadori operates alone is also one of the biggest reasons why Megumi is most likely dead already, and that's truly heartbreaking for many fans of the series, especially knowing that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo would've given them a chance to see Megumi at his peak.
Megumi Was Gege's Original Main Character
Of course, fans might be wondering exactly how Megumi Fushiguro is the original main character of Jujutsu Kaisen. Not many fans know that in his early version of Jujutsu Kaisen, shortly before serialization, Gege Akutami had intended for Megumi Fushiguro to be the main character. Megumi was carved out to be the vessel of Ryomen Sukuna in the original version, and fans know very well that this carried over to the main story as well in the Culling Game. Yuji Itadori was, on the other hand, supposed to be a side character with somewhat of a weak relationship with Ryomen Sukuna.
Sukuna, let's start over from scratch. I will accept you. β Yuji Itadori to Sukuna, Shinjuku Showdown
The nature of the relationship was never described, but it was likely by blood. Finally, Nobara never existed in the original version of Jujutsu Kaisen. Instead, the third member of the group was none other than Tsumiki in Jujutsu Kaisenβs original plans. In the end, Gege made the changes he did, but all that matters little right now. The fact is that Megumi Fushiguro is most certainly dead.
Yuji Itadori Is Still Alive In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
While Megumi Fushiguro has likely passed away in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the fact remains that Yuji Itadori is still alive. This was confirmed recently in the manga, and it practically means fans will see more of him soon enough. Yuji has aged much in Modulo, and this is likely down to him being birthed by Kenjaku and being related to the Death Paintings, who survived even over 150 years.
Unlike Yuji, other characters don't have his ability, so they can't cheat death like he has. Hopefully, when Yuji Itadori is reintroduced in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, fans will see him talk about Megumi Fushiguro and even Nobara Kugisaki.
It would be a great touch on Gege's part to have Yuji reminisce about his friends from the past, and probably also reveal to the fans how they ended up dying over the years. Given that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a short serialization, this reveal will likely come very soon, and fans can't wait to see what the future holds in store for the new main characters.
Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 12 will be released on November 23, 2025.
