The Jujutsu Kaisen world has many unique sorcerers, but out of those, some are blessed by the heavens with special abilities that they receive in exchange for losing something equally important, and they're known as Heavenly Restricted Sorcerers.
These sorcerers are some of the most interesting in the world of JJK. There are two types of Heavenly Restrictions: one that grants characters immense physical power in exchange for their cursed energy, and another, which grants an individual immense cursed energy for an extremely weak body in exchange. Both of these have their advantages and disadvantages. But of course, not all Heavenly Restricted individuals are equal. Here are all the Heavenly Restriction users in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Kokichi Muta
- Type of Heavenly Restriction: Physical Restriction, Cursed Energy Boost

Kokichi Muta is a member of Jujutsu Kyoto High, and out of all the Heavenly Restricted characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, he definitely has it the worst. Muta has the opposite kind of Heavenly Restriction that everyone else has. Instead of gaining insane physical boosts, Kokichi Muta’s body becomes extremely weak. As such, he earns the opposite gift of the others inflicted with Heavenly Restriction.
Kokichi Muta gains tremendous amounts of cursed energy with his Heavenly Restriction, and his control over it grows to a whole other level. This Heavenly Restriction also allows him to control puppets from an incredible distance, making him quite skilled. That said, among those having the restriction, he might just be the weakest. Kokichi Muta is incredibly weak physically, and even the sun can damage him greatly. If his body is found, he can essentially be easily defeated. Nevertheless, his mastery of cursed energy is such that he was able to reach the level of a Semi Grade 1 Sorcerer.
How Kokichi Muta Achieved His Heavenly Restriction
Kokichi Muta has an extremely rare kind of Heavenly Restriction. Heavenly Restrictions are already rare as is, but to be born with a physically weak body but a large Cursed Energy pool is even rarer. It is implied that Muta was simply born this way. Some of his body parts were missing, and ever since he was a kid, he was always in a lot of physical pain until Mahito used Idle Transfiguration as a part of a Binding Vow to fix his body.
Tsurugi Okkotsu

The newest character to be revealed to have completed their Heavenly Restriction is none other than Maki Zenin's own grandson — a character known by the name of Tsurugi Okkotsu. Tsurugi has the same kind of Heavenly Restriction as Mak i, which is a huge physical boost at the detriment of their cursed energy.
With his Heavenly Restriction, Tsurugi has proven himself to be a force of nature. Combined with his extremely skilled swordsmanship, he's difficult to take on in battle. Tsurugi’s Heavenly Restriction allows him to take on the likes of Maru in battle in JJK Modulo. For context, Maru has an incredibly overpowered Cursed Technique, called Chaos and Harmony, that allows him to bend the laws of nature.
How Tsurugi Achieved His Heavenly Restriction
Tsurugi received his Heavenly Restriction in a unique manner. Upon birth, Tsurugi was just like his grandmother, Maki Zenin, born with traces of cursed energy. Fans were definitely wondering how Gege could fulfill his Heavenly Restriction. After all, unlike Toji, he was not born with it, and in JJK, the only way Maki was able to get rid of her cursed energy was through her twin.
In the sequel story, Gege had Rika, Yuta's cursed spirit, fuse with Tsurugi. Following their parting, Rika took all his remaining cursed energy with her. On top of that, Rika also passed on Maki's Split Soul Katana to him. With it, Tsurugi definitely became incredibly overpowered. That said, he still needs the experience to be on the same level as the Heavenly Restricted monsters that fans saw in JJK.
Toji Fushiguro

Toji Fushiguro was the very first character with a Heavenly Restriction that Gege Akutami revealed. Toji stood as the main antagonist of the Hidden Inventory Arc, where it was revealed that he was famed as the Sorcerer Killer. Thanks to his Heavenly Restriction, Toji Fushiguro had no cursed energy. Instead, he had insane physical strength and power. Toji was so strong that he was able to take on Gojo Satoru.
Of course, back then, Gojo hadn't fully awakened. Once Gojo awakened to the power of Cursed Technique Reversal and RCT, Toji was easily killed. Nevertheless, Toji's strength and power struck fear into the hearts of the entire Zenin clan, so much so that they feared him even years after his death.
How Toji Achieved His Heavenly Restriction
Toji Fushiguro has always had his Heavenly Restriction. While it's not explicitly stated in the story, it can be assumed that Toji Fushiguro was simply born this way. In other words, unlike the likes of Maki and Tsurugi, he was not just born with a negligible amount of cursed energy. Instead, he was already born with none. This means that since his birth, Toji Fushiguro was already a monster of a fighter with superior physical strength.
Over the years, Toji Fushiguro honed his skills and wielded some overpowered weapons, one of which was the Inverted Spear of Heaven which was able to cancel out cursed techniques. It was later destroyed by Gojo. He also wielded the Split Soul Katana, a replica of which was also wielded by Maki Zenin.
Maki Zenin

- Sorcerer Rank: Grade 4
Undoubtedly, Maki Zenin is the strongest character with a Heavenly Restriction in Jujutsu Kaisen. Maki has the same kind of Heavenly Restrictions as Toji and Tsurugi. In other words, in exchange for having no Cursed Energy, she gets a massive physical boost. Maki's physical boost, even before being fully Heavenly Restricted, was put to the test when she fought against Jogo and survived a scorching hot attack by Jogo.
Maki was officially considered a Grade 4, but her capabilities were already a lot higher at the time.
After being fully Heavenly Restricted and awakened, she could even compete with the likes of the Special Grades. After all, Sukuna himself has said that fighting against Maki is like fighting against Mahoraga. Even the King of Curses could not see her coming when she fought him.
How Maki Achieved Her Heavenly Restriction
For most of her life, up until Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Maki was not fully Heavenly Restricted. In that sense, she still had a small amount of cursed energy that held her back from being on the same level as the likes of Toji. However, all that changed with Mai's death. Maki was not only held back by her own cursed energy, but also by the fact that she was a twin. In JJK, the universe sees twins as one person, which heavily limits their power. Mai's death in Perfect Preparation meant that Maki could fully awaken to her true power.
When awakened, Maki was able to completely decimate the whole Zenin Clan. Not only that, but Maki would only get stronger after. In the Culling Game, it will be said that Maki had become a monster on the same level as Toji. Evidently, this was even before the Sukuna battle, and before the Modulo timeline. By adulthood, it can be said that Maki even gained the power to use Simple Domains with her weapons, and that she was the one who passed it on to Tsurugi Okkotsu. Maki definitely reached the peak of what one can do with their Heavenly Restriction.
