Japanese role-playing games have been a staple of the industry since the mid-80s, and the genre's relevance and popularity have not declined. Once upon a time, quite a few of these projects were hard to come by outside of Japan; however, nowadays, that is no longer the case. Not only do most projects make their way to North America, but they are also available on a range of platforms, rather than being exclusive to PlayStation. Most importantly, if you are willing to wait, you can take advantage of some great JRPG deals.
Except for Steam, most digital stores do not have dedicated sections for JRPGs, instead opting to include all RPGs under one bracket. As such, it can be difficult to see exactly which games are on sale. So, let's simplify that process by covering the PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam JRPGs that are currently discounted.
Here are some notes and criteria:
- Only digital stores: PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo Store, and Steam.
- To be included, a deal must be available for at least 24 hours after this article's publication.
- If a deal ends before September 7, the date will be included.
- If a deal lasts the full week, no date will be listed.
- These sales are based on North American stores, and things may vary in other regions.
- New deals might become available as the week progresses.
Best PS5 JRPGs Deals
Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Infinite Wealth, Legend of Heroes, & More
Out of the main digital platforms, the PlayStation Store has the best range of JRPG deals for this week, covering quite a few major franchises and subgenres. While perhaps not as well-known as some other IPs, The Legend of Heroes is generally regarded as one of the most consistent JRPG series of all time, and pretty much all the franchise's recent releases are on sale. A couple of Final Fantasy games are discounted, including the PS4's X/X-2 HD Remaster compilation. If you have never played those turn-based classics and want to buy something that will keep you busy for quite a long time, this deal is worth checking out. Alternatively, you can just get Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX.
