Jonathan Joss got his start in film and television back in 1994, and was eventually picked up to voice recurring character John Redcorn in King of the Hill starting in 1998. While he's appeared in fewer video games, Joss lent his voice talent to titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Days Gone, and as one of Cyberpunk 2077's Ripperdocs, to name a few.

Now, news has come to light that Jonathan Joss has passed away at the age of 59, following an altercation with his neighbor. Joss, who was living in San Antonio, Texas, was reportedly approached by a neighbor outside his home, who then opened fire and shot Joss. San Antonio police arrived on the scene and attempted to save the actor's life, but he was pronounced dead once EMS arrived on the scene. The neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has now been arrested, charged with first-degree murder, and is being held on a $200,000 bond. The motives behind the shooting are unclear, though Joss' husband has issued a statement claiming that the shooting was a hate crime driven by homophobia.

Jonathan Joss Leaves Behind Voice Acting Legacy

With numerous roles in television, film, and recurring voice acting spots, chances are many have experienced the work of Jonathan Joss even if they weren't aware of it being him. Joss had a recurring role as Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation, and had multiple appearances on Walker, Texas Ranger, Ray Donovan, and most recently, Tulsa King. In video games, he voiced unnamed population NPCs in Red Dead Redemption, as well as John Fairbanks in The Walking Dead: Michonne, Alkai Turner in Days Gone, Payaso Wannabe in Wasteland 3, and Ripperdoc Robert Rainwater in Cyberpunk 2077.

Though fans are already mourning his passing, Joss will likely have one piece of media featuring his voice premiering posthumously. King of the Hill is getting a series revival, and Joss had reportedly already recorded some lines for the new show. Two days prior to his passing, he had appeared at ATX TV Festival in Austin alongside other cast members of King of the Hill as part of the promotion for the new program. At this time, it's not known if he had completed recording all the lines for the character, or if his role will need to have another voice actor step in partway through the season. Sadly, this isn't the first passing to impact fans of King of the Hill, as fellow King of the Hill performer Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale, also passed away after having already recorded some lines for the reboot.
