Jennifer Lawrence shared whether she might be open to reprising the role of the iconic Katniss Everdeen in future The Hunger Games movies.
Lawrence starred as Katniss and characterized the "girl on fire" throughout the franchise's four movies, including The Hunger Games (2012), Catching Fire (2013), Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), and Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015). Her portrayal of the character in The Hunger Games films propelled Lawrence's career to new heights, establishing her as a prominent A-list actress.
During an interview with Variety, Lawrence expressed her willingness to reprise her role in the Hunger Games franchise. The acclaimed Oscar winner disclosed that she would be wholeheartedly open to returning to the world of Panem if given the opportunity. While promoting her new R-rated coming-of-age comedy, No Hard Feelings, Lawrence enthusiastically declared, "Oh, my God – totally!" She further emphasized her excitement at the possibility saying, "If Katniss could ever come back into my life, 100 percent." As she glanced away from the camera, Lawrence added, "My producing partner just clutched her heart," indicating that her producer, sitting beside her, was taken aback by this revelation.
Lawrence's remarks come amidst the resurgence of interest in the Hunger Games franchise, with the release of a prequel film titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes scheduled for later this year. The prequel –set six and a half decades before the main series– traces young Coriolanus Snow's journey as he rises to become the President of Panem after his family's downfall. Tom Blyth is portraying Coriolanus, taking over the role previously played by Donald Sutherland in the original films.
Lawrence teased No Hard Feelings actor Andrew Feldman when asked about his memory of Lawrence's appearance in The Hunger Games, quipping, "You probably weren't even born." Feldman responded, "I was probably about 10 years old. I read the books, and then the movies came out, and it was a phenomenon. I watched them recently just for fun, and I did text [Lawrence] when it was happening. Those moves are so good. That whole genre didn't exist yet. Nor did we know that genre of film incorporates such a huge and truthful and beautiful performance from Jen." Lawrence cracked, "I can't believe you could read when you were 10."
Subsequently, she has starred in various movies, including Mother!, Netflix's Don't Look Up, and the award-winning Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence currently stars in the edgy comedy film, No Hard Feelings, as Maddie, a 32-year-old former Uber driver who, after losing her job, gets an unusual offer from a wealthy couple. They want her to allure their introverted 19-year-old son before he starts college, offering her a car as compensation.
The Hunger Games is available on Amazon Prime Video.
