Jason Momoa Clarifies Rumors About His Future As Aquaman In James Gunn's DCU

After Jason Momoa enthusiastically thanked the new WBD executives regarding future DCU plans, the actor clarifies statements on his Aquaman role.

In DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun Halloween Special, there is a short story featuring Lobo called “Happy Hal(Lobo)ween!” In the story, Lobo gets invited to a Halloween party and looks for a character to dress up as. He bothers his daughter Crush with his problem and dresses up as Hugh Jackman from Les Miz. She then suggests that he dresses up as a superhero that Jackman played, similar to Lobo. Because this is DC, they couldn't put him in a Wolverine outfit, but instead, Lobo decided to wear an Aquaman costume.

This references Momoa's passing resemblance to Lobo in the comics. Because of this resemblance, fans hope Momoa will play Lobo in the DCU. Momoa has also been hyping Aquaman's role in the DCU reboot, which makes fans wonder whether he will be a part of it. Recently, Variety has seemingly confirmed that Momoa was in talks to play Lobo, either in Gunn's Superman: Legacy or in a standalone film.

Because the actors' strike is ongoing, there is still no confirmation of whether Momoa will play Lobo, as he only had talks to play the character before the strike. Once the strike is over, fans will be on the lookout for a social media post by Gunn announcing that Momoa will play Lobo. The question then becomes if he will appear in Superman: Legacy with the many other DC characters.

This is big news for fans who want to see Momoa in the DCU. Although his take on Aquaman was refreshingly unique from the comic book version, there is no doubt that he would play a great Lobo. Either way, it is a cool nod from DC Comics.
