How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a simple daily game that pits players against a mystery five-letter word. Players have just six tries to get to the answer without any starting clues. This game went viral back in early 2022, but some word puzzle enthusiasts have not tried this game yet. Here are the rules of how to play and a little strategy for anyone who is new to the game.

First, players will want to make sure they are in the right place. The original version and the subject of this article is the New York Times Games version. Other Wordles will have different answers and a chance of having slightly different rules of how to play. The only places players can play this original version is on the New York Times Games Wordle site and the New York Times Crossword App.

Choose a starting word. This word should be five letters long, a real word, and should have a good selection of common letters in it.
Type the starting word into the Wordle site or app.
Press enter.
The letters will change colors. Green letters are right, gray letters are wrong, and yellow letters are right but in the wrong place(s) in the word.
Try a new word and get new color-coded clues.
Players have six total tries to get to the real word before they lose.
Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
